I wouldn't say Barry's performances have dipped, still very consistent and professional, i would look at it differently that perhaps he is playing for an extended contract

Barry has been good but he's been shocking in a few selected games. Southampton was disgusting for instance.

To be brutally honest our English palyers are a level below top player level and whilst we field them we will always be lacking somewhat.

Lescott, Barry and Milner are all good players but none would get in Barca, Real, Bayern, Dortmund, Juventus etc.

All three are good players for us but all three need upgrading on. Of this there really is no denying.

This is a problem endemic to the English game unfortunately. We need a certain amount of homegrown players but we have so few English players anywhere near their foreign counterparts. Ours aren't good enough and realistically few else's are either. You only have to look at the national team for a good hit of depression. Wilshere is the closest thing we have to a world class midfielder (or will be) and he's always bloody injured! (Would still love us to put a cheeky bid in though, queue Arsenal gif :D)

I agree.

The way to counter it is to buy players like Luke Shaw and Jonathon Williams, the best young Britsh prospects. Buy them, let them stay another season at their clubs.

I see what your saying but you have to think that Fernandinho isn't your Robinho or Neymar type of player. He has been battling in the Ukranian leagues for a few years now so Stoke will be a brisk walk in the park! and wasn't a typical Brazilian before he went there.

Ramires is a similar comparison but Fernandinho has more defensive nous and strength I would say. He has been a success imo.

Could have got Fellaini for that money. You can count successful Brazilians in the Prem on one hand. A gamble IMHO.
you'd really be happy paying 23million for Fellaini?

You happy for 23 on this guy? He's worth half that.

Yup, and it will be the ultimate aim for sure. Whatever people think of the media and their influence in this country, it's a simple and undeniable fact that they stick by their own. If you have a foreign team and a foreign manager you will get less slack than a british team with a british manager. That's before you consider players feeling more settled, less likely to be tempted by playing in Germany/Spain. You only have to see the success of the German clubs built on German players, Spanish clubs built on Spanish players.

We will cut the corners for now but City in 10 years will be predominantly English of that I have no doubt.

I am, exactly the type of player we need. Fellaini is a decent player but his best position is playing just behind the striker and I don't see how he would fit in with our side. A midfield two of him and Yaya would just be overrun in Europe as it just isn't mobile enough..

Matt Lowton with Luke Shaw would be good, both play the right way

Unfortunately I do. This is the laziest generation of lads I have ever seen.

Shock as a team will pay more for a player than there supposed worth that was generated by a computer algorithm!

I'd say he was Garcia money but unlike Garcia if we don't pay extra we don't get him and somebody else would end up paying close to that amount.

I know but it's not normally 100% out. I suppose 23 mill isn't confirmed though.

This player doesn't fall into either young with potential or established world star...so I'm not trying to be negative just puzzled as he seems expensive for what he is.

never seen him play but all I know is that I'd be extremely disappointed if the best the club could do was spend 23 million of Fellaini, who is inconsistent and a dirty bastard

I think you underestimate this lad. Has been quite effective for some time now in the champions league and has the mobility, touch, passing, and shooting to really improve our central midfield

At least we know he can perform in the Prem. Fellaini aside this guy has only ever played in the Ukraine and last played for Brazil over a year ago. I trust in the new Barca guys though and hope I'm wrong.

-- Wed May 01, 2013 10:39 am --

I hope so but how many blues were calling for his signature before we were linked? Now everyone seems happy but isn't that what happens with most players we sign to begin with?
