I can understand us wanting to reduce the wages and extend his contract but intimating that he is only useful against lower end teams is a ridiculous comment. IMO, over the last three seasons, when you look at the big PL and FA Cup games, it could be argued that he has consistently been our best performer in these matches.

I know this sounds arrogant but IMO when someone mocks Barry's ability, the first thing that comes into my head is, "That person knows sweet FA about football". I genuinely think that. I have become bored of explaining why he is a very good footballer. Let's get this straight, he has been one of the most important footballers at MCFC, at a time when we have been trying to establish ourselves as an elite club. He played a key role in ending our trophy drought (2011 Fa Cup) and in winning the league. He also given his all in every game.

The least he deserves from Blues is a bit of respect and appreciation.

I have become bored of hearing why a player who is consistently overrun in Europe by young midfielders who cost 1/10 of his price is touted as misunderstood. How much international success have you had with Barry?

He is not and never will be a European class midfielder. If he was Mexican, he wouldn't have half the support he does on here.

Kind of agree, certainly has many shortcomings to his game on the European stage, he's been a great servant and appreciated greatly but to suggest he's the calibre some have on here is ridiculous- the best way to deal with this is wait to see how influential yaya will become with a step up in class of partner!

Agreed.

Also, I don't want to come off implying that Barry gives us nothing. He has given a lot and been there when we need him, which is why I think he should be given a contract. Unfortunately he doesn't have the qualities that Europe demands.

He's ideal for certain situations, but not against European clubs or those who regularly get us like Arsenal, Everton etc. They play a style that he cannot manage, whatever else you think about him.

Are you a season ticket holder by any chance?
Surely you can't be if you don't join in the Barry circle jerk.

Na, can't get tickets, not even been to that ethi thingy, it's in Stockport right?

If we signed Isco instead of a winger such as Reus, I would actually be quite annoyed. Obvious that we are crying out for a bit of pace and penetration.

Spot on he'd be Nasri mk2.

Fooking glory hunter

I would keep Barry as a squad player too. Helps with the english quota aswell. I would sell Garcia, hopefully it's possible. And not just because he is slow...but because he doesn't even make up for it with technical or passing skills. He is average at both.
If we could sell him we would probably have room for Kondogbia aswell. Since Barry is ageing and Rodwell is so injury prone.

I'd be very happy with Fernandinho. £23 mill is slightly expensive for a 28 year old however he is exactly what we need! Thought we'd go in for a younger mobile midfielder such as Kondogbia but Fernandingo is the full package. Plays just in front of the defence and everything goes through him at Shaktar. Very mobile, great with both feet and loves a pass.

For all you doubters....<a class="postlink" href="http://www.metacafe.com/watch/9619820/fernandinho_vs_chelsea_a/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.metacafe.com/watch/9619820/f ... chelsea_a/</a>

That pass at the 7 minute mark is well sexy.

Barry will be a decent squad player and will continue to contribute in premier league games. As some have mentioned the lad is simply not good enough to play in the champions league and anyone who thinks otherwise is truly deluded but he's been a great player for us so would definitely give him a new contract.

Back on topic, don't know anything about Fernandinho other than what I've seen on youtube. Certainly looks like hes got the legs I just hope he's got the defensive discipline to sit in and protect the back 4 for the times when Yaya is being lazy and walking back.

Be delighted if this lad signs for us.

From what I have read and seen (admittedly YouTube) he looks what we need.

He is intelligent, has great awareness of what is going on around him, energy, pace and touch. I think he will be an improvement on the defensive tackling from this season but not so in your face as De Jong was.

Not worried by his age - 28 on 4th May. I welcome it. He has experience and will help the team to develop.

Linking with YaYa will be very interesting.

If this is the calibre of player for this summer then it looks good.

Good signing. Very solid guy.

Plus it's a sweet opportunity to take away one of Shaktar's key players. Disguting club. I will never forget what they did earlier this season in the UCL. Or rather what Luiz Adriano did. Will hate them as long as he plays there.
