I wasn't convinced with him in the pre-seasons as a comparison to Nigel - but I was very impressed last night. Tougher tests to come though.

hadn't seen him really before last night but I'm very very happy with him

He was my MOM outstanding perfomance . i love his link up play and his energy, he reminds me a lot of kompany when he is on the ball so calm and relaxed makes everything look so easy he will be the best summer signing and most important !!

+1

The way he slows down before a tackle comes in, makes a simple body feint and slides away just looks to easy. Kompany looks like a worldclass midfielder when he does it.

I was really impressed with how he goes into a tackle with force, yet somehow disposes the ball from the attacker with out giving a hint of fouling him, and his long balls foward to navas and side changes was really what we have been lacking.

Easily the best signing we have done for a long time.

Fernandinho - Provides so much more balance and mobility in the midfield. Keeps in theme with our ability to provide quicker transitions and counter attacks, but also takes some of the creative burden away from Yaya. Over the last two years Yaya has had to create from deep, then be the focal point on the edge of the box too, but Fernandinho's introduction should allow for Yaya to stick to a controlling role from deep, safe in the know that Fernandinho can create in the final third, and can also help back defensively. Also helps us press with much more ferocity.

Said that in a previous topic about our signings, so true. One thing that I did like was that Dinho and Yaya seemed to alternate, both were clearly instructed to make sure that the back four was never left unprotected, there was a lot of interchange between all the players last night but these two fascinated me the most. Saying that, it's still very clear that Yaya's primary role in the side is creator/controller and Dinho's is more box to box. Dinho's pressing last night was what most endeared me to him, we looked like a genuinely top class outfit without the ball, Newcastle really struggled to break into our third and that was largely in part to Yaya-Dinho's pressing centrally, then the enforcement and doubling up/ball winning from Clichy, Zaba and the forwards.

I thought he was fantastic last night, tenacious, full of energy and some great passing. Some of the passes were sublime.
Bit too early for a full appraisal, but from what I've seen he's worth every penny and then some. He's going to be fucking brilliant for us.
