Fernandinho

Yeah obviously judging players off the back of a couple of games is daft as I could name 50 off the bat who looked atrocious yet turned out to be fantastic a few months down the line.......with that said you do have to take into account the huge transfer fee's that are being paid and when they put in abject performances so soon into their City career(s) you do wonder whether that kind of thing will become a common occurrence.

Interesting that this heat map appears to show Fernandinho has spent more time over the halfway line than behind it so far this season. We basically aren't using a holding midfielder anymore, not a pure holding midfielder (De Jong, Garcia) anyway. That cost us against Cardiff when we really could have used the graft but is very adventurous and probably the right approach in games we are destined the dominate (like most home games). Be interested to see a heat map of Yaya, but even if he's behind the halfway line, there is no way he is a holding midfielder since he doesn't like to tackle.

We control the ball so much in games that Fernandinho will naturally have to be in the opposition half for long periods. Whilst De JOng was effective in his defensive role he was often redundant going forward and simply passed the ball on sideways. For me someone in that role has to provide more in attack and Fernandinho will do this. He passes quickly and always looks forward whilst he is quick around the pitch to make tackles and intercept. This will be particularly crucial in games against tougher opposition and in europe.

I agree with this, seen him play a good few times and is a rop class player.

Its really going to rile the haters on here when he finds his feet and destroys a few teams with Yaya but hey there is always Joe Hart to fall back on when they need someone else to hate and spout vile about :-)

Are you Scooby Doo in disguise?

Made me laugh, funny that!

Lmao!! Me too.

Sat here doing scooby foo impressions and shouting 'rop class'

Basically you're saying he's a player like Yaya. So far we have not seen it though. Hopefully, we will tomorrow.

I do think your opinion of Nige is mistaken. He used to regularly turn defense into attack.

nige was not a box to box midfielder. he was a holder.

fernandinho is on a completely different level. this guy is a genius. he has it all.

hes really lackadaisical with the ball, poor passing overall, if graham was more aware we would already be 1 down due to him losing possession. nearly got zaba booked too

Another great brazilian in the city team. Disgusting.

Speaking of disgusting, there are some disgusting Blues on this board. What has this place become?

Gareth Barry is far superior to this lightweight. Yaya is a lazy fucker who was carried by Barry out of position.

No point writing him off so soon, its clear he needs to get used to the pace of the game. The problem is however neither him or yaya want to stay back and defend which is the massive problem and will continue to be.

then we should have bought a defensive minded midfielder to complement yaya like barry does

I really had doubts about him ever since we paid 30 m for a 28 year old defensive midfielder, the way he,s playing doesn't look half the value

atleast he'll get into the brazilian squad now that hes not playing in the Ukrainian league lol!
did you know that scolari actually said he wont pick players playing in Ukraine? I read it in a daily mail opinion piece written by fernandinhos agent

I am not sure if he has been man of the match (voted on TV) but he got better as the match went on.

Far too early to make a definitive judgement but I think he will turn out to be a good buy (He'll have to be if Ya Ya continues with his non breaking sweat policy)

I'm not calling him a bad player because he's not but he isn't worth half the fee we paid for him.

Seems to be the next player subject to a BM witch hunt. Hasn't been nearly as bad as people are saying. Like, not even close to as bad. He hasn't been consistent enough, but he's been extremely tidy on the ball on mulitple occasions, which is the type of stuff we need to beat teams who are defending with quality.

He and yaya haven't created the greatest partnership, they're still moving into the same spaces and we have missed a player like Barry who works really hard to create the triangles needed, but I'm not willing to place the blame for that squarely on Fernandinho.

I don't understand what's going on among the City fans right now, at least on Bluemoon. It's like everyone has a favorite player or everything has to be about proving the manager right or wrong...football is more complicated than that, it's utterly stupid.

Was quite good today, but not spectacular.

Pinged the ball nicely to Navas on the wing several times, some good no look passes.

Covered a lot of ground as well, won quite a few challenges.

Slowly growing into the team.
