Only on blue moon could you go from Gelson Fernandez to pele in just over a week.

That is fucking spectacular, it really is.
Personally, this is just the beginning. He's improving game by game in his new role for us and that can only bode well for the future. Intelligent little player. I'd like to see him iron out some of his fouls though. Let's face it, Barry fouled a lot but English refs seemed more forgiving towards him, perhaps due to his nationality... Even Aguero has said that British players receive preferential treatment. In Europe though, that was a different story, and Barry was found out.

You can't equate one person's comment with the whole of BM.

That said, I'm not suprised that some opinions of him are changing...Fact is, each game that goes on Dinho gets better and better.

-- Thu Sep 26, 2013 3:00 pm --

Agreed..he is so perfect for our system ..he already asserted himself firmly as part of the spine of City ..he's got the grit of de Jong but has more athletisism and creativity than Barry..what a player..

Agree with you both. What a fucking player this lad is. Absolutely brilliant. When you watch his contribution to games in the cold light of day, it's just brilliant, in every phase. Blocking passes, tracking runners, tackling, and intercepting...those interceptions, he's like a ninja! Such anticipation and balance, just wonderful to watch. Then as soon as he wins the ball he's off, moving it quickly with crisp, incisive passing or intelligently directed running with the ball at his feet. When we're in possession he's always available for a pass, making clever angles, moving the ball quickly, simply and intelligently.

That would be ample on its own, but add to it his ability to play creative passes. A wonderful player.

The thing is, GazBaz (who was a very decent player) had the blocking and tackling in his locker (and yes, he got away with shitloads of fouls due to being English) and could pass the ball decently, but was like a panamax tanker compared to Fernandinho in terms of mobility and agility, and even his passing wasn't as good: loopier, slower, harder to control and more one footed.

Why can't England produce players like Fernandinho :(

Hallelujah! Yes my friend. Thank you!

Rags were getting into it a little bit at that point. Well, about as much as they got into it. If that ball could have got through we could have been in trouble. Superb defending from Fern.

Was saying to a mate after the game that you don't really notice him going about his business like you do other players, but he is very effective in what he does and his speed and athleticism is ideal for our pressing game, all over the the midfield. He made a lot of disruptive interceptions that knocked the rags off balance throughout the game.

Compilation vid of him vs the rags that popped up on newsnow earlier.

That's impressive, to say the least.

Truly excellent today. Able to destroy and then create with sharp, crisp passing. I'm certain he will be pivotal to any success we have this year.

Had another good game today. Totally dominant in midfield. He did not deserve to end up on the losing side.

I have to say though both he and Yaya left spaces between the lines which allowed them to get into threatening positions which ultimately (whether the officials got it wrong or not , and they did imo) led to our demise. We still lack a DM who can sweep up. Vinny was way below his best today too

Top quality. Unheralded by the media, but loved by his own teammates. Sounds like someone we shipped to Everton, but the "new and improved" version!

Fernandinho what a player and how we lost today well ..................................... i'll never know

Sorry guys but I though Fernandinho had a poor game today. A lot of his passes were too under-hit or played behind the player and at times Delph made him look average.

I still think he is a top class player and will be crucial for us but today was not one of his better games.

Had one of his better passing performances so far actually. 90% of 62 passes completed, he usually averages in the 80%s. Fernandinho and Yaya trampled all over Villa for most of the game and that is one of the big reasons we had 67% possession... unfortunately we couldn't score more than 2 goals from 21 chances, which is a bit farcical really but nothing new.
