The thing is I think his passing will continue to get cleaner and more ambitious as he continues on, the Newcastle game showed he has the vision, made some fantastic passes over the top that day. Now he's easing himself in after a few average matches and is now showing a more disciplined side of his game, can tackle, intercept and if that all fails, at the very least harass. Always up against opposition players annoying them. Hopefully soon we will also be able to see his attacking side of the game.

I'm quite comfortable with him playing conservatively if it makes Yaya get a bit further forward as we've seen this past week.

True, but the pressing tactic we now employ should allow players to go forward at different opportunities as we're defending much more aggressively now.

Does anyone have any stats on his game today?

Someone said he broke up play 9 times, more than anyone else. Also let's not over look some of those forward passes he makes.

Very very good players.

Best game I've seen him in so far but he still has a while to go to be better than Barry or NDJ
He's an absolute mile ahead of both and will need time like they did too, especially NDJ !

Sometimes you read a post and you just have to smile because it's so far away from reality it's not even worth disagreeing with.

Very very good players.

4 tackles (the second most, behind Zab's frankly mental 10(!)) and 5 interceptions (the most on the pitch). In addition to that he played 3 key passes (joint highest, with Nasri). Pretty impressive.

Kinda pisses on the argument that Nidge was a better player, I loved him and wish him all the best but he could only defend and didn't offer much offensively - making him redundant for 75% of the PL teams who just parked the bus.

Fernandinhio offers same defensive ability with far greater offensive capabilities.

Of course it's impressive, you get girl guides just waffling Shiite when he's only played a few games. Personally I'd rather talk to my ex then some of the bellends on here.

Not really piss on De Jong, we won the PL with him

He's basically working as a one man defensive midfielder and it takes a lot of mental and physical effort. He was fantastic today, and some of us have been saying all along he's a quality player. Of course, next time he doesn't have a 5 star performance, those same moaners will be back here ripping him apart like the good fans they are. Compare his performance to Fellaini's today... there wasn't much difference in price tag but Fernandinho was much better at both reading and breaking up play.

Made me chuckle

This is where we start to see his worth. Not only is he fantastic defensive midfielder but he's also allowing us to get the best out of Yaya.

We won the league with Adam Johnson as well, so what's your point?

Very good player.

Does things that go unnoticed (like breaking up play ) but can also play a flashy, incisive ball forward.

Im happy we've got him and I think he will play a crucial role in the team moving forward
