Fernandinho's contract

Ahh, now it makes sense why match of the day gave him such a sterling review after the Burnley match. He's very nearly out of contract so let's make City's negotiating position even harder and encourage other clubs to look at him. I've never seen him given so much praise in the previous 3 years despite continually giving those type of performances

I've seen the same revisionist talk in the media on Yaya now he is nearly a free agent.

Can't believe some of the naivety here. Fact they didn't get a deal done before season means they are far apart and there is real possibility he leaves.

Not fact at all. It's your interpretation from a position where you haven't a clue whether talks have taken place or whether any understanding has been reached.

May be there is differences between the city and fernandinho representatives about the renewal , the player reps. want 3 years renewal but city managment wants 2 years only ??

Can I borrow some tin foil?

None of us know any facts because we are not privy to those talks.

What I'm saying is the confidence in this thread he will stay is unfounded. The other thing I know for fact is that in these situations both the player and club ideally get these things sorted out a year in advance. The fact it hasn't means there is sizable gap between what the player wants and what the club is willing to offer. If there weren't, Fernandinho would be crazy to risk injury and not get in place long term contract.

The fact is, City don't hand out contracts easily to 30 year olds & Fernandinho will not get many better offers than City & we don't know what City have offered or whether he has, or will sign, & you have no idea either way.

I'll give you a fact, he's dead happy at City. Look at him.

Where did you get these gems in Trafford, what with the facts shortage, in that area?

The Mail are reporting that his contract actually expires in 2018, not 2017 as initially thought. Not sure if that's true or not. Maybe he signed a one year extension on the quiet?

He will sign, he's been our most consistent player since his arrival and is there really anyone out there who we could potentially buy that would replace what he offers? Unless Pep turns us into Barca 2.0, we need a Fernandinho warrior who can also play a bit in the midfield.

I have no doubt that he will stay at City - he loves it here and Guardiola rates him very highly. Just seems a bit odd that there is confusion over when his current contract expires.

From the Sun (puts fingers down throat)

'The Etihad faithful have been worried that their £30million signing will be free to talk to other clubs in January.

However there was some mis-understanding when he first joined about the length of contract he signed with the Premier League club'.

Confirmed by City it's 2018 according to them.

Sam Lee has said 2018 and he's quickly becoming one of the most reliable City journo's out there.
