The other thing I know for fact is that in these situations both the player and club ideally get these things sorted out a year in advance. The fact it hasn't means there is sizable gap between what the player wants and what the club is willing to offer. If there weren't, Fernandinho would be crazy to risk injury and not get in place long term contract.

The fact is, City don't hand out contracts easily to 30 year olds & Fernandinho will not get many better offers than City & we don't know what City have offered or whether he has, or will sign, & you have no idea either way.
