Much as I am excited by the thought of getting Torres, I agree with Revolver, it's time for a world class centre half beause we certainly haven't got one of those yet.

I'd feel far more confident about City mounting a title challenge with a world class centre-half, the trouble is they're about as common as rarely tinted albino rocking horse shite. If there is going to be a WOW it should be of the rarely tinted variety.
 
Don't know if I missed it on here, but RAWK is a buzz with "news" that Torres is staying.

Hodgson just said this in a press conference this afternoon:

"As far as I know <Torres> is looking forward to coming back here; he is back on Monday," said the Englishman.

"He is enjoying a holiday - a well-deserved break as he has not had one for three years.

"He is spending a lot of time with his family, keeping a low profile and as far as I know he is not really speaking to anyone.

"But he has told us that he is looking forward to Monday, looking forward to getting back to work and looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season.

"That is what I know so other reports, I would suggest, are erroneous."
 
If he stays with them then it shows he has little ambition and so is a player I hope we wont be linked with again.

True, but he proved in the WC he can play the killer pass. he put through a sublime ball for Van Persie against Denmark that led to a goal. He will greatly improve Liverpool if we let him go. I'd rather keep him and let Barry go.

I know it's not 100% concrete, but its a marked change in tone from Woy and I think that must be because he's had some positive news or dialogue.

just doesnt sound totally confidence inspiring though considering it was only last week woy was stating "weve done all we can concerning torres"..

Q - If one of our players signed a new 4 year deal, spent most of the following season injured, then, on returning to something like fitness, declared he wanted to leave, would you say he was:

A) Ambitious
B) A complete %$*!

If Gerrard had gone and there was no money to spend, you could question him more for staying, but Gerrard is staying, Cole has signed and they seem to be after a lot of players for a club who's apparently broke. Considering Arsenal and Spurs haven't really bought anyone yet either, I'd say Liverpool are back in with a shout of the top 4, if Torres stays.

I always said it would be daft to rule them out. With Gerrard and Cole (who is a bloody good player by the way) and either way, Torres or £50m+ to spend on replacements, Liverpool can certainly be a threat. Not winning it of course, but for the top 4 places.

They still have a very good starting 11, however their squad lacks quality in depth... Torres, Gerrard and Cole whilst quality players all are prone to injury and if either of those continue that injury prone trend liverpool will struggle again imo.

agree- when you look closely at Hodgson he aint got too a good a track record in English football. Disaster at Bristol City and Blackburn (who had big money at the time) then he has obviously had a couple of good years at Fulham 7th then lower last season and obv the Europa final (Middlesbrough have done that recently though). The scousers and English media seem to think he is some sort of Messiah- that he ain't in my opinion.

True, but we haven't got Mourinho either have we. Some of Bobbies decisions to date have been, to be flattering about it, "puzzling". Not to say fooking barmy.

I hope he manages to assemble a team from our multitude of talents, but as we saw against the rags and spuds at the end of last season, we were still woefully underperforming given the players we have. This
Liverpools biggest problems last year was not the first team, it was the second team player were shit.
Thats way I think it would be a bad idea to give them 4/5 good player for Torres.
I'd give them the money theres a good chance RH will only see 10 or 15mil of it,
And wont can you buy with that in todays market.
