He can't sign a normal contract because his Arsenal contract doesn't expire until June 30th. For him to sign a normal contract now, Arsenal would have to release him and we'd have to pointlessly pay his wages for a couple of weeks.

City wouldn't announce him if he hadn't signed a legally binding pre-contract.

As for Fernando, apparently there is a dispute over money between him and Porto (I'd guess loyalty bonus), nothing that would seem to threaten his move to City since Porto and City have agreed terms.

I don't think we are as near to signing Fernando as everyone seems to think.

The OS has now covered the fact that Sagna "will be signing for us" after the World Cup. This means that nothing has been signed yet and there is just a verbal agreement in place. Yet, we are happy to report it as a done deal. What if he breaks his leg in Brazil ? Would it still be binding ?

Surely if Fernando was a similar 'done deal' then the OS would be reporting it in the same manner ? There is obviously something holding up the deal and we don't even have a verbal understanding that he is going to sign for us.

Flap flap.. Sagna deal is signed, they can't legally say he signed as he's still under contract and it would be a breach on the rules.

I'm not flapping about Sagna. Can take him or leave him.

I'm saying that we have announced something on the OS that is not 100% nailed and yet there is no mention of Fernando.

Surely I made that clear ?

I wouldn't normally respond to gratuitous abuse Oakie but I am curious as to why you feel a need to unleash so much vitriol on a poster who is simply questioning the perceived wisdoms on here.
