I don't think we are as near to signing Fernando as everyone seems to think.

The OS has now covered the fact that Sagna "will be signing for us" after the World Cup. This means that nothing has been signed yet and there is just a verbal agreement in place. Yet, we are happy to report it as a done deal. What if he breaks his leg in Brazil ? Would it still be binding ?

Surely if Fernando was a similar 'done deal' then the OS would be reporting it in the same manner ? There is obviously something holding up the deal and we don't even have a verbal understanding that he is going to sign for us.

I was talking about Sagna being a done deal, no matter how it's written on the OS, as the deal is done, there's just some legal rights and ways the club have to act around, and you question it being done.. Yes, there's a definite sniff coming from him.

Sagna will sign his 3 year deal on the 1st of July, until then he's an Arsenal player. He would have signed a pre-contract (under the Bosman ruling) and had his medical already. Perhaps City asked Arsenal for permission to announce he would be joining us if only out of courtesy.

Fernando is on a 3 year (?) deal so cannot use the Bosman ruling and wouldn't be able to sign a pre-contract so there's nothing for us to announce. We do not announce anything until the deal is done (Sagna's pre-contract means it is a done deal).
