Fernando

The one thing that worries me about the two Ferns is they both give to many free kicks away and that could cost us....but thats nit picking. They have both improved at a steady pace and look increasingly integral to the team.
We don't press hard as a team so there are times when they both have to put foot in and slow down the game.

There have been too many games this season where he could be described as shockingly bad or painful to watch.
Last night wasn't one of them. If he was a liability how many chances did they create from his side?
I was there as well so not sure where the reinforcement of being there makes a difference.

It stems from watching him off the ball, you can't have been...

Gobshite, play him behind yaya and dinho is his best position, many times he has been played in a 2 and got slagged off because he wasn't very good
Along side dhino works very well as we saw but next to yaya he was rubbish
OK. If you say so.

So no examples of him being a liability?
There's not many instances that I disagree with you when it comes to City but in this case I do.
I don't even disagree he wasn't at his best, just your assessment is too harsh, and that was with watching him off the ball.

You'll have to forgive me for not taking serious posters who use phrases like "shockingly bad" and "painful to watch"
I've seen the Magical Merlin, the guy last night and moat of this season has been a shell of that guy. So when I say it was painful to watch. It's because I know the magic I've seen prior.

This opinion by the way is not unique. I feel the same way about Yaya, and I get annoyed when people say it will be hard to replace Yaya. It wouldn't be hard at all to replace the present Yaya. He is simply a ball passer who pops in goals every now and then. He is not the unstoppable avalanche he was once. Even he can't replace that old Yaya.

Anyway, not to get off topic, after multiple reviews, I think Joe Hart was by far the best City player. Fernando too made 2 massive errors that an off pace PSG didn't punnish. Had they, we'd be on a "sell him right now" thread. Those are the bounces in football.

Overall, I thought he was a constant force. Joe, Navas and Clichy were more consistent overall.

Mate, it's an opinion, too many people believe this is a personal attack on them when having differing opinions.... People have different perceptions when analysing games, for example, many have slated fernando throughout his city career, I'm one of his biggest advocates.. Playing players in there natural positions tends to bring the best out of them, others can argue he's had ample opportunity in 'said' natural position, others can see that this hasn't actually happened..

Silva last night, for me, went hiding.... He boxed in clichy constantly by refusing to take the ball on, his whole dna is about 'pivot' and drive, his first phase of play is lacking and causing him to rush passes... It's what I see, it isn't an indictment on yours or anyone else's ability to read/view a player....

You're still addressing the wrong person. FWIW I have never given Pellegrini stick for picking the two Ferns in a team (as far as I am aware). I know it hasn't always worked out when he has but it isn't something I have personally given him stick for. I am almost always happier when he is a bit more pragmatic and picks a more solid midfield. It's being too open that gets on my tits.

Not giving you stick.

Plenty do though.

Managed to watch the game back last night after I got home from the match, the tv doesn't really do justice to how shockingly bad he was .. Clichy had a worldy because, fortunately, he was able to stem the tide of being doubled up on constantly. You suggested silvas defensive duties were neglected, glad we agree on that, however, his decision making with the ball has become really concerning...

People moan about yayas attitude toward other players, silva 4/5 times last night was berating those around him for his mistakes....

I'd love to Raheem back and fit on in that team in place of Silva.

I think Fernando is an excellent player when we are the less technically talented team. He is brilliant at breaking play up and stopping the opposition. The past few champions league games have shown this, with him giving the team to press reasonably high up the pitch.

He is far less use to us when we're the top dogs. In these games his lack of fluency makes him a passenger for most of the game.

He offers next to nothing when we have the ball - i guess that's why he is very good when we have 35-40% of the ball and he's weak when we have 65-70%.

Stats show he is good at defending - as good as Fernando and gets up in support when required.
Oh and he can pass forward.
Not seen enough of Delph to pass judgement. Fernando has generally been much improved this season and despite a few rocky moments was excellent over the two legs against PSG. Silva has not had a good season at least partly explained by his on-going injury problems. However, to write him off as some now seem to be doing would be foolish. I think he could have 2/3 seasons left at least one of which could turn out to be a gem. As I have said before Ya Ya will be on his way with our blessings if a good home can be found for him.

Delph for me would be nowhere near this side. He's nowhere near good enough for this level.
People have said the same about Fernando for most of his time here but we still look a better balanced team with him in it. I wouldn't write Delph off just yet, he's had niggly injuries for much of the season and has been played out of position occasionally when he has actually been given a start. I'd need to see him get a fair run of matches in his best position to really pass judgement but I think there have been signs that he could be a more than useful squad player over the next couple of years. Mind you I said something similar about Bony for about 12 months before conceding that he is in actual fact utterly shit.

Really pleased for the Octopus and for Clichy who had great games. Can both be part of the Pep future.

You can't be making that call from solely his City days because he has been generally excellent for us when he's played in the middle, although out wide he doesn't look anywhere near as comfortable as Fernandinho did. Played in the same counter attacking style we played against PSG he would be great, he's Fernando with added pace and a bit more composure in possession.

I like Delph and I think we've missed him. There's an energy about him that can really lift the team, In fact I felt he could have been introduced earlier, rather than yaya who looked liked a pudding and made a dangerously bad decision with that free kick. I think Delph will play a big part over the next few seasons.
