Fernando

What a fucking colossal performance from him, and actually the same has happened at Kyiv and in Paris, apart from that shocking mistake (he lost the ball again tonight before Cavani's chance, which was probably their only real goalscoring opportunity, but boy, he as fucking everywhere and tackled everyone throughout the entire game).

Having that said, I'm having a hard time imagining him in Pep's team (he never really had a 'specialist' DM in his squad in his entire coaching career, and got immediately rid of Luiz Gustavo, who is one of the best players in this regard), so that's sort of the same nice swan-song for him in the CL as it is for Pellegrini.

I'd argue Xavi Alonso is one of the worlds best. Back on topic Fernando has been outstanding, the more he plays hopefully he'll get better.

  1. "We can still finish third if Arsenal lose to Aston Villa so we must forget about the draw and just go for three points."
  1. "If we fail (to qualify) we can't class this as a good season - if we do then I think it's been a reasonable season overall."
This lad has become a firm favourite of mine,i always knew he'd come good and his attitude is spot on.Whether Pep thinks he can use him i'm not sure, but I think he's proved worth every penny of that 12m.

A decent but extremely limited player. If Pep does not want him due to his obvious limitations then it begs the question why did we sign him? The same goes for all the players signed from 2014 onwards.

He's playing better but that's not saying much. Like his attitude clearly gives you everything he's got just not sure that he impacts on games enough.

I had high hopes for Fernando but they were never fulfilled but he works bloody hard and through that he's stood out this season when he has no right too. One last game for you to show what you're worth Fernando! Maybe Pep might see something, I doubt it but makes no sense to not give it your best shot.

Has come good the last few weeks but some leagues are just too quick for some players? Seems a decent fella though and tries hard unlike some!

I agree. I hope that I'm not being too cynical in thinking that he upped his game only when he realised that he needs to catch the eye of other clubs to get himself sorted for next season.

Hasn't been helped by having some of the laziest players in football around him. When he's in there with fernandinho it's as good a pairing as there is in Europe

He struggled last year with injuries and settling in to a new league and team but this year he's shown what he's capable off. I can't see Pep getting rid myself (this is Fernando I'm talking about BTW).

He was world class against Arsenal and was unlucky to be subbed. He did also show some offensive skills in that game. I think he's been one of our better players this second half of the season but I'm far from sure he will be a part of Pep plans.

Got pretty sharp on those interceptions in midfield - we saw it for the first time in Sevilla. He could be kept as a squad player.

I'm starting to like him - he's finally gelling with the team and getting used to the Prem. Very hand squad player and I think Pep can make good use of him.

Criticism at this point would be his reaction time and turning circle, he doesn't seem to be able to change directions quickly and thus gets caught out.

Our best player since the turn of the year.
Yup. But folks can't let go of their preconceived notions. Only player in the CM position I have no issues with when it comes to who gets to stay. Delph is a crock, Fernandihno is getting old, Yaya is past it. The only player who looks guaranteed to be better next season is Fernando. Last name I'd considered dropping at CM.
