Anyone even remotely involved in the purchase of Fernando should have his testicles anointed with honey and lowered into a jar containing the most aggressive wasps on the planet. Only then might such a man be brought to his senses.
Fernando was bought as a midfield destroyer but has alway featured in a 2 man midfield which just isn't his game.

To utilise Fernando to the benefit of our team he needs to be the 1 in a 4-1-2-3 formation (which I personally prefer) and which Maureen played during his first spell at Chelsea. Maureen would have never asked Makele to do anything other than to protect his back 4 and get the ball to the more creative players so they can concentrate on doing their thing. Let Fernando do what he's best at and I'm sure he'll be fine because I saw enough of him earlier in the season to know that he's a specialist player being asked to play a game that's alien to him.

I think the way we've set our team up & where we've asked him to play has had more to do with his below expectation performances than just the player's lack of ability. We've been putting far too many square pegs in round holes this season for my liking.
Couldn't agree more. Rodgers may be a self-important windbag but, by accident or design, he's found a system that suits the players he currently has. Pellegrini insists on playing a system he doesn't have the players for.
Totally agree with the comments about Pellers. Not sure there is ANY formation where Fernando would look good mind. He simply can't take the ball forwards or pass the ball forwards.

To play a 4-1-2-3 system, with an out and out and stopper, don't you need the "2" to be very energetic players, capable of getting up and down the pitch and also providing cover for the fullbacks? It doesn't seem to me that there is a viable system that includes both Fernando and Yaya.
Most modern players have an element of stamina in them, its just some have more than others whilst others can make up for a lack of stamina by using skill and their football brains.

If we had a midfield 3 of Fernando with Nasri & Yaya ahead or Dinho & Yaya in difficult away games, we'd have a better balance of steel, creativity and skill in midfield than we currently do with Fernando alongside Yaya in a midfield 2 with Dzeko & Kun ahead of them.

I've made no secret of my dislike of 442 especially given the fact we don't have a couple of young Steven Gerrard types at our disposal to make it work. We should always play to our players strengths and not constantly try to shoe horn them into a dogmatic, philosophical formation as we seem to do. Therein lies the reason I think we've looked defensivly shakey for the last 18 months or so.

What exactly is the job of a director of football? It's not just buying first team players is it? Isn't it also about building the academy, signing players for the academy and all that sort of stuff as well? I have to be honest, I don't know exactly what Txiki's job is, or how much he's responsible for. I see him get blamed for a lot, but I have next to no idea what he's actually responsible for?

I'm absolutely delighted by your honesty, a very rare trait on this type of forum. I consider myself pretty well up on the executive structures of football, more so than most, but I don't know what Txiki does every day either. I know that he's involved in recruitment at first team and youth levels due to comments made on the record. How involved he is, to what extent, what he negotiates and what he doesn't, absolutely nobody at all on this forum knows. It is worth remembering that when you read posts - most of us have absolutely no idea what his job even entails past what others have done and more pointedly, what computer games show them

Essentially, once you recall that nobody at all on this forum or even in the press have any real idea of what they're talking about then the whole debate is cast in a much smaller and more hilarious light. Remember your honesty because it sets you apart.

I think Txiki's role as a DoF may be narrower than it is at some clubs because of the presence of Brian Marwood, who has a wide remit. For instance, I believe Marwood is responsible for things like the medical teams and technical staff (e.g. video analysis). Txiki's focus is very much the first team, as I understand it, but his remit does seem to extend to setting the overall strategy for club's style of play.

Exactly what his job description is though something those of us outside the club are mostly left to speculate on.

We need a good transfer window this summer. If not, fuck em off. I have no sympathy towards anybody who earns what they do. Pellers, same for him. We need to progress every season, if not then his fate will be sealed. If it isn`t already.
Bang on the money

We played Fernando, Fernandhino & Yaya at QPR and it was abysmal. All three stayed in the middle of the pitch, playing almost in a straight line. Easy peasy for QPR to pass the ball round them.

Well he's destroyed our midfield but I'm not sure that was what they had in mind when they bought him.
