Feyenoord (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

I agree with most of this, save for KDB - yes, he's not "there" yet, but, he still looked a class above most of our team in his short spell last night. Let's hope we can get 75 minutes out of him at the weekend; Dias back at centre half; Ake at left back to take of Salah, and Walker can find some form to come in and strengthen us - shoring-up the right side of the back four.

As we're finding out this season - again - it's a funny old game.
Walker has looked awful the last couple off games so I’m not convinced he is going to come good in this short space of time. He will probably have to play though because Rico needs taking out of the fray for this one.

"so why take him off with 20 minutes to go. I’m sorry, but when you are bossing the game, keep the players on until you get a 4-0 lead at least"

Any players at our club including the youth teams should be able to defend a 3 goal lead against a very average Dutch side.
I think you need to read my post again carefully, I don’t disagree, just disappointed the subs didn’t do their job

Making the subs was clearly the issue as it destroyed the balance of the team The mistake were a consequence of the subs Before the subs 3:0 after the subs 3:3 simple evidence
Yep. We're a team with zero confidence. As soon as they got 1 with 15 mins left we were in trouble

If those subs hadn't been made we maybe would have had the experience on the pitch to see it through. Instead we absolutely froze

Dias should have been on instead of Pusey. Especially as we need him on Sunday, so 20 mins in his legs would have helped him

I bet you weren't saying that the day he signed.

Last night was bizarre, even the Spurs result was, in fact I think I'm correct in saying that in EVERY ONE of the last 6 matches we've been the better team, most possession, most passes, most shots and so on. Statistically you wouldn't normally lose those matches, those odd half chances that the opposition get from an error or a hopeful ball don't result in a goal most of the time, but just lately they have and as such I think we've been desperately unlucky at times.

But I'll keep saying it, this is what happens when the core is ripped out of the side. It's not just the missing players, the ones coming in dont get a break, and in circumstances like this end up with a lot of pressure to deal with and make mistakes they wouldn't normally make as a result.

You don’t think it was a sentimental signing?
He wanted out of Barca and we were happy to have him back but it’s not worked out, I wasn’t so sure when we signed him…….

I can understand Pep trusting his subs to see the game out, but once Ake was subbed and Gvardiol had a mad ten minutes, it was pretty obvious that the Dutch subs were fresher than our defence. The first goal was a complete shambles, the second a bit unlucky, but the third was waiting to happen. I was relieved we didn’t concede another. Without Dias, Stones and Rodri, we just can’t defend. Also this was Gundogan’s best performance since jis return, so why take him off with 20 minutes to go. I’m sorry, but when you are bossing the game, keep the players on until you get a 4-0 lead at least
We shouldn't be needing 4 though

There isn't a top side on the planet that would cope with the level of injuries in key positions that we're dealing with - even our stand-ins getting injured. But injuries apart and players losing their main attribute as time and age catches up, one or two other elite players are struggling and not grabbing games by the scruff of the neck as they normally strive to do. And yes, the phrase 'out of their depth' springs to mind re players coming in due to injuries. Yes, we've made strange mistakes in the last few games - players having otherwise solid games but having a weird couple of seconds. The effort is there and after the magic of the last eight/nine years, a season like this, even with a fully fit side, is perfectly normal - strange it hasn't happened before now. We just have to suck it up and rebuild in the summer.

Times were very different mate.
Aged 13 in 1972, I was allowed to go from Sholver (Oldham)… Bus to Train station, Train to Victoria, then bus from Aytoun St to ground. I wouldn’t think I’d be allowed today.
Yep. My parents were considered ‘strict’ by my mates but by the time I was 13 I’d been all over south Manchester and the city centre on bikes, buses, on foot, with mates, sibling and Jack Jones. And I was an 80s/90s kid. Don’t talk to strangers, cross with the green man, 10pm for the phone box and you were golden.

I've really been trying to cheer myself up today, but nothings cutting the mustard. However, another positive is our unbeaten CL home run is still intact. A little comfort in these dark times. Narrr, I couldn't give a shit! Last night felt like a defeat. :(

This doesn't make much sense, but it actually felt worse than any of the actual defeats.
