Feyenoord (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

Well said mate.
In a thread full of mardarses and entitled bellends, someone sees the bigger picture and posts some sense.
Well said brother.
Yeah , thats lovely.
Now mind if we discuss the drop off and how it's happened and the mistakes made? Hopefully the board will be discussing those things and not saying "nice whilst it lasted".

Pep has frustrated me in the past for not throwing youngsters on when the game has seemingly been won…..so not going to criticise him for doing just that tonight….but why couldn’t we just drop to a flat back four after their first goal.

The experienced players let us down….De Bruyne with misplaced passes and failing to take the sting out of the game, Akanji strolling about thinking he’s the new Beckenbaeur (he’s actually very good when he sticks to the basics) and poor goalkeeping by Ederson plus some really sloppy and weak play by Gvardiol.

At times tonight we looked a little like our old selves but where has this sudden frailty come from……we definitely miss Dias for his leadership and organisation….De Bruyne is definitely not captain material.

Time waits for no one and despite an unbelievable achievement in winning the league last year….Walker, Gundogan (although tonight was his best game since his return) De Bruyne and Stones should be nowhere near the squad next season……and maybe one or two others.

If there is to be a criticism of Pep it is too much loyalty for the old guard.

We can’t have a relatively small squad with players that are very injury prone….Grealish, Doku and Ake have got to prove they can stay fit.

Our main aim has got to be Champions League qualification but this is going to hard to get over the line because some of the players know this will be their last season.

Let’s hope a top defensive midfielder is on his way for just after Christmas.

If Dias doesn’t play on Sunday it could end up as a humiliation.. so why wasn’t he brought on for 20 minutes to give him a bit of game time and to help us see the game out.. which he almost certainly would have done

He was never where he should have been, he’s struggling at the moment. Poor at Brighton, Poor v Spurs and poor tonight. However, not on his own. Gvardiol, Akanji, Ederson also poor.
I think you're probably right. But I also think its the system. Where does he want Rico to play? In the middle, yes. But above Gundogan? Surely not. That's why Gundo's sub, from a system standpoint, was curious. You're basically taking off your 6 and replacing him with no one. Gvardiol should have been subbed off and Ake moved to the right.

I mean, I get it - Gundo is in the twilight now. He's not supposed to go 90 minutes. Key words: supposed to. But with Kovacic out, who goes in? O'Reilly? We put Simpson-Pusey in. Like for like sub. Ok. But then Pep subbed in KDB and McAtee. So that meant either Akanji or Lewis went into the middle. Neither knew what to do and both got beat.

What's most frustrating is that we actually played well for 75 mins. Drop those 75 mins into a regular run of games for us and it looks more than alright. We reduced Feyenoord to very little and created a lot of openings, and we deserved to be 3-0 up, if not more. But as soon as Pusey, Gvardiol, and Ederson all fucked up, Feyenoord sensed something and we didn't have the players in midfield or defence to step on any rising hope for them. Lewis is shagged out, Pusey is another Boyata, Akanji is playing through injury, and Gvardiol is also shagged out. With Dias and Walker out there that last 15 mins doesn't happen - it's the only hope I've got that we can get out of this bizarre rut and rebuild in January.

Since May 1963… Almost 62 years!!!
We were relegated that year.

While this is a significant stutter and I don't believe given what has transpired we can expect any success of sorts this season and I wouldn't be surprised if our 16 years of qualifying for the Chumps League comes to an end , we have the set up to bounce back relatively quickly but we do need a major overhaul of the squad in the next 4 windows and obtain real quality in many positions while doing so.

Our performances this year to date with a couple of exceptions have been below par and for an extended period of time to clearly indicate that many of our squad that has really overachieved for a number of years now and all credit to them have aged , become too injury prone and cannot compete with speed , strength and resilience anymore.

In short it was expected all things considered but we shall move on from this and be better for it in due course.
