Feyenoord (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

I've just watched the 3 Feyenord goals again...
I can't really work out which bits of them are worse...
The defending... an outrage against humanity...
The goalkeeping... comedic genius...

Anyway, its hard to have a go at these players after all they have done for us so I'm putting it all down to a period of bad luck that is quite unreal.

Things will change and we will be ok.

We do however need to address some glaring weakness in the squad.
I suppose it all depends on your definition of OK...

Exactly, the implosion all started with Gvardiol. The whole momentum shifted at that point when we had been totally in control. He was at fault for the first two goals tonight just as he was for the first two against Spurs. He still looks good going forward and has scored some very important goals for us but his main job is to defend. We need a proper left back who knows where to position himself rather than be shoehorning in a converted midfielder/ centre back. Too often he drifts inside to the central position where he is probably more comfortable leaving acres of space on our left for counters.

Poor judgement from Eddie who was never going to reach that through ball for their third and it seems every shot against him is going in. Also he doesn’t command his box and too often stands on his line rather than coming for the ball when a corner or cross comes in. Maybe time for Ortega to get a run of games?

A few seasons ago as soon as we lost the ball we went hunting in packs for it & usually had it back within secs, that hunger, legs, drive & press is sadly no longer existent, we don’t have the players to carry it out anymore, a huge change is long overdue, our transfer dealings haaland aside have been shockingly bad last few yrs, I’ll cut givardiol some slack he’s playing out of position

I was positive, not anymore.
That was fucking shameful.
We can only play one half of football.
I ain’t blaming Pep for that one, that’s all on the players.
We ain’t winning the title and we’ll be lucky to finish top 4.
We’ve no heart anymore.
We’ve no fight anymore.
We’ve no pride anymore.
3 points in our hands and we’ve just thrown it away.
Absolutely fucking fuming.

What a lovely poem

What's most frustrating is that we actually played well for 75 mins. Drop those 75 mins into a regular run of games for us and it looks more than alright. We reduced Feyenoord to very little and created a lot of openings, and we deserved to be 3-0 up, if not more. But as soon as Pusey, Gvardiol, and Ederson all fucked up, Feyenoord sensed something and we didn't have the players in midfield or defence to step on any rising hope for them. Lewis is shagged out, Pusey is another Boyata, Akanji is playing through injury, and Gvardiol is also shagged out. With Dias and Walker out there that last 15 mins doesn't happen - it's the only hope I've got that we can get out of this bizarre rut and rebuild in January.
What does shagged out mean?

Pep certainly has things to answer for but he’d have been crucified if we get hammered by the dippers using players even more shagged out than they are now. If you can’t rest anyone when you’re 3-0 up against the Dog & Duck, 20 minutes to play and have a dressing room full of sick notes, when can you?

Criticise other stuff by all means but at least there was a logic:

- Gundo off: age has taken its toll and he’s playing far more minutes than he should.

- KDB on: patently not match fit so it was an opportunity to ease him back.

- Phil off: been looking a bit jaded this season and some suspect poorly.

- Nathan off. Only just back from injury and he’s needed for the dipper game.

- McAtee on: a rare chance to give him some minutes.

Some people want it every fcukin way but hindsight’s all too easy when pontificating on a forum. We don’t have that luxury in real life.
I'd agree, but we were 3-0 up when KdB came on, where was his "experience" at seeing a game out, truly dreadful for me.

McAtee's sole contribution was a stupid yellow card, he's nowhere near the level we need right now. Simpson Pusey for Ake I had no problem with, we will need Nathan at the weekend.

Was it Grealish took a stupid quick free kick at 3-1 ? Trying to get the 4th, where we gave possession away immediately ? He's not a kid, and with his experoience should know how to keep the ball in those circumstances. Bernardo, again worked very hard (when does he not ?) but he's in awful form right now.

The last 15 minutes were an absolute joke, an excercise in how not to control a football match, very out of City's normal way, at 3-0, or even 3-1, we would 99% win until recently, we currently look a shambles if we concede a goal.

There was more than enough experience out there tonight, for that not to happen, and it was a shambles.

Lets also face it, they are a pretty poor team, and would struggle to stay in the PL, so how did we manage to throw that away ?

What's most frustrating is that we actually played well for 75 mins.
Did we ? I thought we were poor for 45 minutes, yes we had the ball a lot, but created next to nothing, and a penalty helped out the non scoring forward players to a 1-0 HT lead.

We then improved and put ourselves in the sort of position where we all expected 5 or 6, well we got 6 but sadly the other 3 were in the wrong end, and all on our players.

I said earlier that it was another shambles, no point trying to make out otherwise, and in this sequence of results, for me anyway, the worst yet confidence wise, especially going into the next game we have.
