One potential signing we may want to look at is Jack Colback at Sunderland. It is reported that he is available on a free. A homegrown player who is at ease in central mid and full back could be a real asset in a restricted squad.

Also. In relation to 21 players being enough last season. We should be looking to get to at least the Quarters this time round as MP has said so the restriction could harm us in the latter CL stages.
He's just a one season player right? Wouldn't it be better to just Fuck this champions league off this year, break even and smash it next year. I'm sure we could sort something out with the player's we've already got.

Edit. Sorry didn't see the free part.
.

I wish we could have done a deal mate where we play all our CL
Games away. Even though I have renewed on the CL scheme I could easily give the games a miss.

I think Colback is going to get a lot of international caps in the years to come. He can play the role Barry has excelled for Everton in this year where I think we need back up (unless Fernando comes). That said , MP didn't line Barry's game so Colback might end up as a one year fix like you said .

If Pellegrini can get Villarreal to the CL semi-final and Malaga within touching distance of the semi-final then I'm sure we will still challenge.

Don't forget the squad will still contain 13 foreign players and when you consider Hart, Clichy and Milner that will be a very strong squad of 16.

As long as we don't get stupid suspensions or injuries we should be fine.

Not read all of the thread as cannot be arsed but i heard we can only spend £48 million this summer, how could we possibly buy english players with that budget. Usually one alone costs that much.

I not happy with the sanctions but also understand the club have to make the effort but a bit of me also wanted the club to tell them to fuck right off.

It seems we have decided to accept it knowing in the long run we will be ok, we will increase our income through sponsors, bigger capacity etc.

I reckon for at least two seasons gone are the days where we compete for the really big signings.

It's not the strength of the squad I'm worried about it's squad harmony. If we sign Sagna, Mangala and Fernando then we'll have 18 'foreign' players which will have to be cut to 13. Who do we leave out?

Where've you seen that we can leave the four homegrown players out ? To me that'd seem like a non punishment and I don't see UEFA agreeing to it.
Earlier in the thread. UEFA rules say that if you only have 4 locally trained players your squad is limited to 21 - so if the squad is limited to 21 by UEFA they would need to say clearly that this rule doesn't apply. Maybe when they realise, they'll change the goalposts again. If the "agreement" is binding, then if UEFA did try that, City could go to the adjudicatory panel or CAS just on that narrow issue of interpretation. I hope that somewhere in the agreement City have (rather like an insurance claim) not admitted breaking the rules - unlike, say, accepting a police caution which does involve admitting the offence.

The way I see it, with most of the financial sanctions being "suspended", the only sanction which could effect us is the squad size reduction. If they're really going to let us register 17 foreign players and four association trained, then IMO we're laughing and can go about our business as normal.

I reckon the likes of Wenger will be spitting feathers though. They'll know now that this is the only window UEFA can touch us in.
What did they want? Expulsion when we are already receiving the toughest sanctions in all of Europe despite breaking even this season, and turning round losses of £197m 3 seasons ago

Also what happens if an Ozil, or a better player becomes available in the Summer. Say a Di Maria and we have already spent our quota on Mangala, and or Fernando? Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to be competing between themselves for the best players in the transfer market

Why the f**k would we sign Jack Colback ahead of giving our academy players a chance? Jesus, if Nasri and Silva are keeping them out of the team then fair enough, but not Jack fucking Colback.

For what it's worth , here is my squad:

Home trained, Hart, Boyata, Guidetti, Keeper(he's currently on loan in Norway)

Home Grown: Rodwell, Milner, Clichy, Keeper (Wright or Given- Chelsea managed with Schwarzer)

Foreign: Zab, Sagna, Kompany, Mangala, Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, Toure, Silva, Nasri, Aguero, Dzeko, Negredo

Players left out but remaining at the club and on standby for latter stages if there are any long term injuries: Garcia, Navas, Jovetic, Demechelis (it's tough on all of them but needs must and they will be fit and fresh for domestic games)

B List: Nastasic, Lopes, Huws, Rekik and others.

This squad should go far and I commend it to the House.

Two most expensive English players are Carrol at £35M and Ferdinand at £30M. Bale cost Madrid a lot but he is not English.

There is an English premium but this does not make English players unaffordable the main problem is that there are not many good players available at the moment.

Where are you getting this '13' number from? Surely it's 17 plus 4 'homegrown'.
