Most players in Division 1 who score and then keep possession are doing it because they're sick of playing opponents whose only method of playing is sitting every player behind the ball (the majority using computer controlled defending - e.g. selecting a midfielder and letting the computer tackle/defend against you in 1 vs 1 situations because it eliminates human mistakes) then counter-attacking. Once your opponents realise they're not going to get the ball back by sitting in defence waiting for you to over-commit players forward (usually after 70 minutes or so) they leave huge gaps at the back out of sheer frustration chasing the ball with 2 or 3 men. Possession is the best form of defence, why risk getting caught on the counter-attack by pushing too many men forward to score a 2nd goal when you're already winning?

Only the cowards with no confidence in there ability play counter-attacking tactics because fundamently it doesn't work. Counter-attacking relies on your opponents to make a mistake, the better your opponents the less mistakes they'll make meaning you have less and less control of the game. You're basically admitting you're shit before you even kick-off, just like Blackburn and Bolton did the last two weekends against City.

I basically live in Division 1 and I don't employ any defensive tactics at all, nor do I expect other players to go gung ho even when they are winning. But getting a lead, then knocking it about your back 4 for the rest of the game (basically nothing but time wasting) is infuriating to say the least.

If you're in Division 1, you should be good enough to play your normal way once you have taken the lead and go on to score more. Yeah, you may get caught out and concede but if you're good enough to bag one, you're good enough to get a 2nd.

Scoring after 10 minutes and then proceeding to waste the other 80mins with one twos by Puyol & Pique is quite frankly shit and has nothing to do with being worried about the oppositions counter attack, it's because they don't feel confident of outplaying you in general and just exploit a flaw in the game because the computer controlled players don't automatically press the defenders as they dont realise the opponent in control is a complete burke.

Of course the computer controlled players will press the defenders if you use the correct strategy. In custom tactics you can select whether you want your defence to play a deep, medium or high line and you can also select the aggression level to either contain, press or double press. I play with a high line and pressing more often than not but depending on my opponent I will adapt my tactics. You play like the majority of players in Division 1 play very deep, containing tactics with very quick counter attacks and are too scared to change their style hence why the computer controlled defenders don't press. If you remember you beat me using this tactic twice in unranked friendly games but in a ranked game you wouldn't have had the same opportunities to counter because I wouldn't have pushed so many players forward so early in the game.

And I never said you shouldn't look to score a 2nd, 3rd or 4th goal or that you should just pass between your CB's, simply that once you have scored that opening goal you can take less risks and be more conservative in trying to score another goal. Saying anything to the contrary is naive, you only have to look at our previous manager Mark Hughes to prove how vulnerable keep piling forward is, how many wins turned into draws because he was too stupid to realise we just needed to keep possession for 10 minutes to kill the game off.

Sorry mate, but you couldn't be more wrong.

I start every game by shifting my starting style to attacking and use the high pressure tactic instead of counter attack pretty much 9 times out of 10. I'm not quite sure where you get the impression I play deep from.

I suppose we can have a couple of more matches now it's Fifa 12 'cause when I beat you, it was on Fifa 11.

I also remember you moaning a little because I liked to use the high pressure tactic by getting a team-mate to add additional pressure however the effectiveness of this has been reduced from Fifa11 to Fifa12.

I enjoyed the games against you last time, just a shame you had to harp on about the way I played when there was quite frankly nothing wrong with it.

I regularly have more posession and more shots on target. UNLESS, i'm playing one of the boring bastards as i've already mentioned who time waste for 75 mins.

Whats your PSN id bud?

The quitting before 5 minutes problem has got so bad that I just don't play H2H anymore. Not done so for two months I think, my record is the same as I posted earlier in the thread (about 38-3-2, I think). I only play UT, because no matter at which time they quit, you get the win. And it's a lot of fun creating a team of random players and getting to 100 chem. Has anyone noticed how the players with ridiculously good teams are actually the shittest at the actual game?

Anyway, who does everyone play as on H2H these days?

Roma, Napoli, Bilbao, Lyon, Santos.

Occasionally City but only when I'm bored. What's everones favorite formation? I use the 4-3-3 (4).

Did that challenge thing when you're Roma vs Lazio, and it was awful. Took me so long to do, so many attempts. I didn't enjoy playing with Roma at all, how do you manage it.

And 4-2-2-2 is the way to go, the most balanced formation around. Though I like 4-3-1-2 with Milan.
