FIFA delegates getting their cummupence! Blatter GONE today.

If there is one thing we hate in America, it is corruption in sport. Corruption in government we can overlook, but not corruption in sport. They'll be looking to make names for themselves and further their careers by making examples of these folks that's for sure.

I would amend this to say that Americans hate bribery -- in sport, in business and even in politics.

True enough. It messes with our innate sense of fair play. Even is it is a touch illusory.

Wire fraud is the legislation that will get their arse twitching .
It states who ever, having devised or intending to devise any scheme or artifice to defraud, or for obtaining money or property by means of false or fraudulent pretences, representations or promises transmits or causes to be transmitted by means of wire, radio or television communication in interstate or foreign commence, any writings, signs, signals, pictures or sounds for purposes or executing such scheme or artifice shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or not be imprisoned not more than 30 years or both.
So basically FIFA is well and truly fucked over by the FBI .God Bless America now get that twat platini

  • receiving bribes to receive media and marketing rights to football tournaments
  • receiving bribes to influence the decision of where tournaments should be hosted - including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and the 2016 Copa America in the US
  • racketeering - organised illegal activity
  • money laundering
  • wire fraud - or obtaining money by fraudulent means
On that first point, doesn't that mean heads will roll from some of the big name sponsors?

And good luck being out on bail pending the trial. They may sit in federal prison (most of them are hellish) for a year or two. We have this odd situation in the US where federal judges have to be confirmed by the US Senate and that pretty much hasn't happened in years due to political infighting. The backlog is nigh incomprehensible.

Good. Let them rot.
Re -- testimony about Blatter et al . . . I think it's pretty clear that this is the expectation, as it is in most conspiracy investigations. Today's arrests almost assuredly stem in part from testimony by Chuck Blazer, Jack Warner's kids and this guy from Traffic Sports. All their guilty pleas were "unsealed" today. Serious, serious things they've plead to per ESPNFC:

"They face maximum jail terms of incarceration of 20 years for the RICO conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering conspiracy, money laundering and obstruction of justice charges."

These are the kind of charges (i.e. the RICO statute) prosecutors use in going after mobsters. They won't get near 20 years because I'm sure they've plea-bargained in exchange for testimony about the 14 arrested today. Blazer was forced into being an informant after the Feds threatened him for not paying taxes on his kickbacks while at FIFA.

The net is cast wide on the evidence but also under the assumption one or more of the 14 will flip on Blatter and other higher-ups in exchange for a reduced sentence.

This is very, very serious. IMO Blatter cannot survive.

I bet none of this shit sticks to HIM though. He'll just bugger off into the sunset, with all his ill gotten gains.

From the Daily Telegraph

Federal prosecutors can, for example, count every email a criminal sends in the course of committing their offence as a separate case of wire fraud

Garry Cook probably shouldn't ever move to any American state that actually prosecutes people for racial hatred crimes then.

This is actually standard procedure for the Feds. They will charge people with hundreds of counts (each with lengthy mandatory prison terms) and compel a guilty plea or co-operation and testimony against someone higher up the chain.

If it plays out like that Sepp Blatter may have to evaluate taking residence in a country with no US extradition treaty.

I get the strangest stench that septic bladder is using this to paint him into a 'saviour of football' type character.

These events have occurred under his leadership. His position is untenable surely?

He has to resign. There is probable criminal activity in his organisation. If he is unaware of such he should resign due to incompetence at the very least. If these delegates are guilty they clearly have very little respect for bladder nevemind football. He has effectively lost the dressing room and the fans and backroom staff. Him plodding along preaching stinks.
