I think they had jurisdiction due to unpaid taxes and potential bribes relating to marketing deals for tournaments.

If I recall correctly, whilst Platini is quite possibly "astonished" at the level of shitstorm that is about to occur, he's openly said on numerous occasions that FIFA, under Blatter's "dictatorship", is, shall we say, "dodgy".

Must admit I felt a tad sorry for the guy as Blatter was obviously shitting himself and he threw the lambs to the wolves at that conference.Time and time again he was asked "shouldn`t Blatter resign" and all he kept doing was taking his glasses off and banging them on the table.Quite funny and he really was taken to the cleaners by the media.
