FIFA delegates getting their cummupence! Blatter GONE today.

Unfortunately Mr Blatter's donations to other geographical areas are not the only examples of political vote buying. Surely our own Government, the EU and The World Bank have been doing it for years.

We as the UK Government give overseas aid for political reasons with no traceability on its use.
Projects are given cash aid to 'developing' countries by The World Bank and misuse often occurs.
EU is littered with projects that are started in its member countries but never finished because cash is diverted in the receiving country for other purposes.
EU itself has so many black holes that its accounts have not been approved by its auditors for the last 18 years.

I wish that everything was perfect other than the FIFA fiasco but football is merely following much bigger examples and the accusation that the FT made just before the last WC in Brazil that it is operating like a 'sovereign state' is proving to be accurate.

Russia has held major tournaments before, the Olympics being the prime example, and I'm sure the infrastructure would be in place for the WC, but the problem is a social one. There is an ongoing war with the Ukraine and there is also a huge racism problem affecting football and it is these kind of issues that worry many people. If these issues can be addressed in actions rather than words, then Russia would be no worse a place to host the event than somewhere like South Africa was.

Yes I agree. Racism is an issue in Russia but with the Ukraine war, I'm sure things would cool down by 2018 definitely. The whole war as of right now is cool, ever since the ceasefire was signed back in January. With Racism, I would say yes that could be an issue but then again Russia recently hosted Winter Olympics and the World Athletics and those ran perfect. Black athletes in Winter Olympics and sprinters like Usain Bolt competed in athletics without any issue.

With the fan racism/hooliganism matter, no country is perfect. My case and point is the certain minority English fans that used to cause trouble, like Heysel, which led to English teams being banned from Europe but with all this, England still got the right to host Euro 1996.

I think your wrong there: This was taken from 2010

Sepp Blatter backs Qatar cup bid

FIFA president Sepp Blatter yesterday gave his strongest indication that $43 million may have gone up in smoke on Australia's World Cup bid.

Just four months after backing a European nation to land the 2018 finals, Blatter is throwing his support behind Qatar to be the first Arab country to host a World Cup in 2022.

Blatter told a news conference in Doha yesterday he was impressed by Qatar's rapid rise as a major sporting destination and that the gas-rich country had dramatically improved its infrastructure.

"The Arab world deserves the World Cup and Qatar has a good chance to become the first country from the region to host it," Blatter said.

The Australian Government backed Football Federation Australia to the tune of $43 million to land the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

FFA chief executive Ben Buckley could not be contacted last night because he was travelling back from Doha after attending the Asian Cup draw.

Qatar will host January's Asian Cup, and it is interested in lobbying for the 2022 World Cup.

"I'm a regular visitor to Qatar and every time I land here I am impressed by all the development," Blatter said.

Qatar hosted the Asian Games four years ago.

"It is a big event in which men and women compete in 30 different sports and the fact Qatar held it successfully means its organisational abilities cannot be questioned," Blatter said.

Blatter is one of 24 men on the FIFA executive who will hand down a decision in December on the winning 2018 and 2022 bids.

Blatter's latest comments are concerning for Australia.

"What matters are the guarantees the bidding country has to offer and, on that count, I have no doubt that Qatar will put on the table all that is needed to host the event," he said.

He didn't back it, he said nice things about the bid which he did about every single bid including ours. Platini backed it which is why there's several billion pounds of Qatari investment in France right now and Platini's son works for the Qataris.

IIRC Blatter's preferred choice was Japan. Qatar was a UEFA idea, backed by UEFA candidates and pushed through by UEFA members. Platini was pretty much under orders by his close personal friend, the President of France to do whatever needed to be done to get the World Cup in Qatar so this is what he did

Surely the investigations into the 2018 and 2022 bids will bring that to light as well if true?

Just what will change exactly? There no way Russia and Qatar will lose their world cups so a few people will go down for profiteering from it then it will no doubt carry on in someway although just not as obvious. So what will happen?

No, the investigations will clear every major UEFA candidate of corruption and find every major African or Central American candidates guilty of corruption. Just you wait, this is exactly what will happen.
