FIFA U-20 World Cup

Absolute joke.....England are becoming the laughing stock of football, I mean come on Peter Taylor for fucks sake, no wonder the way we play is like it is, same with U21s

The quality is there, it's the fucking coaches and the whole system that needs an overhaul, starting at grass roots up, get someone in from Spain, Germany or Holland and start again with a new coaching format etc, Spain, France, Germany, and Holland have all done it at some point and that's what we need......start again and I don't mean with Glen Hoddle or fucking Gareth Southgate either, but someone who understands youth football and can overhaul the system from top to bottom

Last week, Sir Trevor Brooking, speaking to the media following the dismal performances by the U21 squad that led to the sacking of Pearce, said that the system is being overhauled with the focus on the new multi-million pound training centre at Burton on Trent. However, he cautioned that the results of the work going on there will not bear fruit in the near future but rather from 2016 onwards.

Sir Trevor acknowledged that we are way behind the Spanish, German, Dutch and Italian coaching systems but urged patience from bitterly disappointed fans.

An interesting statistic reveals that the last time an England U20 side won a match in the finals was in 1997 - sixteen years ago!!

Since that time we have played 16 matches that are broken down as:-

Won 0
Drawn 8
Lost 8

The latest pisspoor performances against the likes of Iraq, Egypt and similarly second rate footballing countries shows just how serious the situation has become.

Coach Peter Taylor blames the influx of foreign players. Complete bollox.

shocking stats, those. things have reached a tipping point now, the fa cant continue to run things as they currently are, just a complete disaster.

Brooking has been in his job for over a decade now and during that time has achieved the square root of fuck all. It's a scandal that this shyster is still involved with the FA.

Absolutely correct DB, when will we see the end of jobs for the boys at the FA, Brooking gave Taylor the job of coaching the U20s, I listened to Taylor being interviewed on Talksport by Keys and Grey before the tournament and he basically got the job because he was one of the boys, just like Hoddle and Southgate who are being talked about for the U21s job, it is a joke

Brooking can spout all the bullshit he wants, but if the FA are not prepared to change the way we coach kids in this country and increase the amount of top quality coaches available we can forget it
The FA's coaching standard is behind the times, if I am not wrong i think it was last revolutionised (if you can call it that) by Howard Wilkinson which for me says it all when you consider how long he has been out of the game and the types of team he produced

If the FA want to create more quality coaches they could start by pouring money into funding coaching courses to allow coaches to achieve the highest level possible to them

For me the quality just isn't there.... Im sick of hearing we have great players, then continue to fail at these tournaments... We are miles behind technically.... Some smaller countries who we still beat in qualifying, tend to play better football but don't have that end product to beat us. But when we come up against anyone decent our deficiencies cost us everytime. We don't have the quality of player to do well, time to face up to that...

I disagree.... The quality is there I see it week in week out at academy level....the problem is the coaching of young players from a technical point of view and the lack of technical games such as Futsal within our game it's no surprise the likes of Spain, Italy, Brazil etc are miles ahead of our players in terms of technical ability....check out the Futsal thread some interesting views from posters from Spain and Italy giving insite into how Futsal plays a big part in early development terms of players

The whole system needs overhauling, England and the FA need dragging into the modern game and radical change throughout is needed, it can be done it just needs some one with the foresight and knowledge to do it and that isn't the likes of Trevor Brooking

Who will make the Quarter Finals?

Here's my prediction...

France v Turkey
Greece v Uzbekistan
Spain v Mexico
Nigeria v Uruguay
Portugal v Ghana
Croatia v Chile
Iraq v Paraguay
Colombia v South Korea
