People are getting upset because of terminology but when it suits them it's ok. I call that irony but let's agree to disagree. Why can't it be women of the match (or lady of the match)? It's women's football, we are called Manchester City Women's Football Club. Why in men's football has it changed to player of the match?

'Player of the Match' can be used in every possible match, men/women/boys/girls/mixed. So why not use it? Why is it a problem?
Why in a men only match, would we need to specify that the best player of the match was a man?
It's all a bit daft really and a load of fuss over nothing. It really doesn't matter if people use the wrong term here or there, I don't actually see anybody really get bothered about it, it happens. Sometimes after my daughter's matches I ask her who got 'Man of the Match' and then correct myself because it sounds daft. Terms change, the world changes too. Some people though just don't like change and see the need to push against it, even when it's over something pretty miniscule.

player of the match is nice and better i believe (in 2023), since some people wants it that way; and it is ok i believe; if everyone will be happy.
there are other serious gender performance related problems(biological male athletes performing in females division etc.)...which are real problems, need to be solved....

first feminists asked for not naming it as ''man of the match''. then they changed it to player of the match. and then they changed also it for men's game :)) i dont know..
the problem is, if trans players (for example if a trans male(biological male)) will perform in men's squad, then she wants to be called as ''women of the match'' in a men's game. and vice versa.. probably there are many biological female players in women football, describing themselves as man....
if you say ''Player of the match'' you will avoid those kind of possible problems in future.
edit: so think it is more about lgbt rights, then feminism or whatever.

That said, if that genuinely was the plan, I think it coming down to whether or not we win against Spain shouldn't really come into it. It's one game and shouldn't really make a difference at this point whether she's deemed fit for the job. As an international manager she hasn't failed to get her team to a major tournament final ever. This is her fourth consecutive major tournament final and she's already won two of them.
