FIFA Women's World Cup 2023

There will be tougher tests to come than that game but a decent performance (especially with the two previous games) and some quality finishing. Roll on Nigeria now.

There will definitely be tougher tests but taking 9 points in that group is a decent start for a team that seemed to have lost its aura a little of late. And the usual suspects in this tournament aren't looking infallible. With the gap between the top teams and the rest closing it looks like any one of about 8 teams could blunder their way to the trophy this time around.

It's defo the first time I've watched us this tournament where I haven't been thinking so much about who we're missing and more about who we have and feeling we're getting the best out of them. Instead of trying to make someone a like for like replacement for Walsh (an impossible task) I think it was a smart move to use Zelem and Stanway together. Dropping Toone was a good call and she looks more suited to affecting games off the bench like she did in the Euros. I think it's unlikely England will win the tournament but they are least looking like something might be clicking at the right time.
