FIFA Corruption

Defended FIFA abit today only because i think Qatar is a good venue for 2022 as i've been there and enjoyed my time there. Whether FIFA is corrupt or not... Open to whatever i doubt we'll ever find out. It's interesting to read this website though!

Re: FIFA Corruption

When you actually read the stuff on that website, it makes you wonder.

Once you do, its no real surprise that Qatar got the vote for 2022.

Ask yourself why 2 world cups were decided at once?
Not been done before.

Chung idiot-joon, vice president, and Mohamed Bin Hammam, Asian football
president, threatened to bring Blatters reign to an end because of corruption
allegations surrounding the ISL marketing scandal.

Add to that the fact that Mohamed Bin Hammam is from Qatar....

Also, the Qatar bid was technically the riskiest bid by fifa's own admission.

Don't be surprised to see Blatter get another term as President of Fifa.

The rumours were that one of the guys (Issa Hayatou) who was accused of
taking bribes voted for England. Now, consider that England got two votes
and I'm guessing that Geoff Thompson voted for England this makes the two.
BUT,word has it that the Japanese member Junji Ogura says that he
voted for England....Hmmm.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Personally, I think the whole process should be open and transparent.
Why have the vote in secret? Its not national security is it?

edited for accuracy ;-)

Sepp Blatter Leak: 'Isis-Supporting Qatar Will Be Stripped of 2022 World Cup'
By Lewis Dean
November 10, 2014 13:55 GMT

Fifa has denied Qatar will be stripped of the 2022 World Cup following reports that claimed Sepp Blatter said this would happen to members of the Norwegian FA.

German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that Fifa president Blatter allegedly told members of the Norwegian FA that "the 2022 World Cup won't take place in Qatar" during a dinner held in October.

The newspaper added that the 78-year-old called Qatar's rulers "arrogant" and said that "they think they're allowed to do anything with their money". Blatter allegedly rebuked the Qatari Sheikhs for backing terror group Isis (Islamic State).

A Fifa spokesperson has denied that Blatter made the comments and reaffirmed Qatar will host the showpiece international football tournament.

In a statement to IBTimes UK, Fifa said:

"With regard to the story in Der Spiegel, Fifa wants to reiterate that the information provided by the sources‎ does not reflect what actually happened at the dinner in question, which was held during the Fifa President's visit to Oslo in October.

"The claims made by the sources are unfounded. The 2022 Fifa World Cup will take place in Qatar.

"Among the subjects discussed that evening were in fact the Handshake for Peace project - a joint initiative between the Norwegian FA, the Nobel Peace Center and Fifa - and the impending Uefa Euro 2016 qualifying match between Norway and Bulgaria, at which the Fifa President was present that evening as a guest of honour at the invitation of the Norwegian FA.

"The topics of Qatar and the 2022 World Cup were talked about very briefly. Dates were discussed as there are presently discussions taking place to determine when will be the best time to stage the tournament in that calendar year and the Emir, who had visited Fifa President Blatter only a few days earlier in Zurich, was mentioned.

"In this context, the Fifa President spoke of how, in the meeting in Zurich, he had congratulated the Emir on speaking clearly during the previous day's state visit to Germany, where the Emir had met with Chancellor Angela Merkel."

The spokesman also refuted claims that Blatter rebuked the emirate's rulers for financing the terrorist group known as Islamic State (Isis).

"In response to a journalist's question as to whether Qatar was financing the Islamic State (IS) group, the Emir refuted the suggestion in no uncertain terms. Fifa President Blatter praised the Emir for that in Zurich and mentioned it in conversation at the table in Oslo," Fifa stated.

"In no way did the Fifa President associate Qatar with IS. The atmosphere at this dinner with the Executive Committee members of the Norwegian FA was pleasant, friendly and relaxed."

They didn't give him a big enough envelope

Blatter said that? Really? PMSL.

That shows a disturbing but not entirely surprising lack of self-awareness if true.

Little reported, but it is said that Qatar and the UAE are on different sides of the civil war in Libya. It has been in the broadsheets that Qatar is providing materiel support to the Islamist rebels and the UAE, allegedly, flying combat missions against them from Egypt.

Re: No World Cup for Qatar? - Der Spiegel

If Qatar didn't get the WC, I would imagine there would be the biggest fallout of shite, shite, sewage and sugar ever to come from a party scorned. What they would have on FICKFUFA would make MPs expenses a bit of a petty cash misunderstanding!
