Films that were acclaimed that are actually rubbish

James Cameron's "Titanic". Won shedloads of awards. The first half especially is glorified soap-opera sentimentality. The ship doesn't even look that big.
I much prefer "A Night to Remember" (1958) as a retelling of the story. Is it just me?
It’s just a love story ....er where shall we put it ? I know ...the titanic, absolute drivel
 
I’m glad American Beauty was mentioned. I saw it years ago and didn’t see what all the fuss was about

I think for the gap between acclaim & actual substance it has to Shawshank redemption, decent film but many claim it’s the best film ever made ....sneek into a top 50 maybe
