Fire at Manchester Dogs home :(

I don't get this love-in over dogs in this country to be honest. What happened is terrible, but many people have died in fires at workplaces, houses, factories etc.... and not a penny raised in most cases.

People caring more about animals than fellow human beings?

Strange one if you ask me.
Probably to do with the fact that people in general are wankers - as this place shows all too often.

I don't really understand where you are coming from here and is there any need to insult the forum like that?

That many people feel compassion for defenceless animals who have suffered appalling deaths, and have been moved to donate money in order to help alleviate the suffering, it restores my faith in humanity somewhat

You speak for yourself mate , I love animals and I am not a wanker, it's a pity that your Father wasn't.

The Manchester Dogs Home is a Mancunian institution and to many people, me included, visits there are part of their childhoods. The appeal has been fantastic. It doesn't mean the people giving don't care about other charities. Most of them probably support other charities. It is easy to be cynical about these things but I am proud of the way Manchester people have rallied round.

Haha, fuck off then.

Look, here's a worthy cause, like it or don't. Either put your hand in your pocket or don't. Look, here's a website, either go on it or don't.

Either way, just stop fucking moaning because nobody is twisting your arm here, sunbeam.

Think you may have misunderstood me there a bit, and in fairness looking at my post it was abrupt. I was talking about people who ask why we like animals more than humans. In my experience it's down to the fact that people can be wankers where a poor defenceless dog doesn't tend to be. I have a rescue dog myself and the news of this fire has knocked me sick.

Thanks for clarifying that, I had a discussion at work today with a guy who felt that dogs were getting better treatment than any humans would, my point is this, by domesticating animals we then have the supreme moral responsibility to look after them as best we can

“Humanity's true moral test, its fundamental test…consists of its attitude towards those who are at its mercy: animals.”
