I don't really understand where you are coming from here and is there any need to insult the forum like that?

That many people feel compassion for defenceless animals who have suffered appalling deaths, and have been moved to donate money in order to help alleviate the suffering, it restores my faith in humanity somewhat
Think you may have misunderstood me there a bit, and in fairness looking at my post it was abrupt. I was talking about people who ask why we like animals more than humans. In my experience it's down to the fact that people can be wankers where a poor defenceless dog doesn't tend to be. I have a rescue dog myself and the news of this fire has knocked me sick.

Thanks for clarifying that, I had a discussion at work today with a guy who felt that dogs were getting better treatment than any humans would, my point is this, by domesticating animals we then have the supreme moral responsibility to look after them as best we can
Agree completely. I got my dog when I lived abroad from a shelter and the state she was in was pitiful. Cost me over 2k to bring her home and it was money well spent.

Well if you did that then I'm glad your Father wasn't a wanker. :)

That's true but you have made up for it.

This is what it sounds like to me;

Young lad and his mates messing about with fire/matches setting fires (like some kids do). Things have got out of control very quickly and they have ran off in panic.

Or am I missing something?

There's actually an MEN article about the lad who did it being bit by a dog a year or so ago.

To be honest that sounds more like what the apologist pigs will say when he doesn't get anything like the sentence he deserves.
Bottom line is he set fire to a dogs home. Dogs died. The public are rightly outraged. He should live his teen years and most of his twenties inside. And that's it.

Fair play to anyone that wanted to help

I just hope that there is a similar response next time a family perish in a house fire - doubt there will be as we seem to value dogs above humans in the UK
Its the nature of the act which has shocked and appalled which has caused people to respond in the way they have.

Its got nothing to do with people 'valuing' animal life over human. You just have to look at the countless donations people give to various charities every day across the world which has human interests in mind.

These dogs need immediate care, care which costs money and time and effort and the response has been incredible.

I know what you mean.

Generally though, if there is a collection at the supermarket for the RSPCA or a local donkey sanctuary people are falling over the Shredded Wheat to give money. NSPCC and Childline tend to do less well.

And you know this how ?

Don't talk shite.

After such an awful event, it is somewhat uplifting to see the response of decent folk that can afford to help.

For you to deride it is disgusting.
