Fire ,fire, but no one to put it out.

"Figures released by GMFRS show an increase of 140% in all rescues over the last 12 months, alongside an extremely worrying threefold increase in fire deaths."

And the solution to that? Cuts obviously!

We're all in this together, lets just hope there isnt a fire.

That'd be difficult, you moan about everything to do with the public sector

As someone who employs public sector people - ie a member of the public - I feel entitled to comment on their attitude, which in many cases I think is naive and selfish.

Many of them seem to think they should be a venerated, protected species, forever to remain at the high water mark of employment terms and conditions while the people who pay them are subject to the full force of the market and globalisation.

By constantly moaning about terms and conditions which are probably still amongst the best in the country they demonstrate how out of touch they are with the economic realities which affect millions of people who pay the taxes required to fund their relatively generous work related benefits.

I'm on the dole in a nicely funded council house and couldn't give a fuck ;-)

The public sector is wank.Shit money and conditions - moral on its arse......
I know because I left and found a new job, after 13 years of shite, that pays better and treats its staff far better.

Tell that to the firefighters.

Good for you.

Tell the firemen where you work so they can apply too.
Spookily enough.......
I did and they have been recruited, many are still in the application process or awaiting new vacancies.
Strange such a large percentage, with years of experience and loyalty should feel the need to leave a profession they dreamt of being a part of.......

The one thing that should change is their job title. When their is a horrendous motorway crash the fire brigade are their cutiing the injured out of the wreck. When a building collapses they are there again. They now even have to remove obese people from their bedrooms using special hoists (see yesterdays 5 lIve report) There are less fires than 30 years ago but that does not mean there should be less firemen.

Much like the Ambulance service, these people attend such varied and unpredictable situations that it's impossible to label them with one specialisation or skill set - It's just a shame those abilities aren't fully recognised and rewarded.

Fireman and women do a great job. But i must say that in these days of fire retardent furniture/smoke alrams/CO2 alarms, the shambles that is bombfire night, plus the rules that kids no longer can buy matches/fire lighters to have fun with, plus farmers no longer "burn fields" the list goes on. The job of a fire fighter is pretty much a less daunting experience than in the past.

Juts my thought but i underline THEY DO A GREAT JOB AND ARE HIGHLY AND RIGHTFULLY RESPECTED! (even in the summer whenthey drive their engine slowly past pub beer gardens arms out of the window showing off!)

Mass civil disobedience is required bur X factor is on so the proles don't give a fuck.

The gagging law makes it harder to protest legally. 21 days notice etc. And if they don't like it they can ban it.

I'm not advocating the type of protest where we give notice, i'm talking about the need for an uprising or a modern day revolution

The people hold the power but have no idea how to use it,

As employees of the public the fire brigade's staff are probably treated better at work than the vast majority of people who employ them.

Public sector workers generally have shorter working weeks, premium pay paid overtime on higher wage levels, more annual leave, earlier retirement, much more generous pensions and better entitlements to sick and maternity leave than the average UK worker who pays their wages.

Why do they moan ten times as much as the rest of us?

Is it not near time you got over the fact you failed the aptitude test to become an administrative assistant when you left school because you were not bright enough.
That chip is causing damage to your mental health.
Time to let it go, or seek medical assistance.

Indeed we do.

But most are consumed with whatever the idiot box tells them. They get more concerned about about a z list celebrity being unfairly evicted more than losing their rights, until it's too late.

As urmston has entered this conversation I will leave, he only comes into troll and why he's allowed to even be on here anymore is a puzzle to me, it's always easy to attack public service employees as they seem to be the only ones who try to stand up to this fucking government and the shambles it has created, lazy, gold plated pensions etc etc, change the fucking record. If he had the balls id bring him down to a fire station of his choosing and let's see how he handles it.

Dont worry, JC will sort it out. In the fullness of time.

Fact is the majority of people are fucking lazy and want everything done for them so they'd support manning the barricades as long as they didn't have to build them and could take time off the actual manning to watch Corrie and go to the pub. Oh and they would want to be on Facebook whilst they were there. The powers that be know this and fuck us over they know too few would ever actually revolt.

As for this present spat I'd say fuck 'em. To a man and woman when you're sacked on Xmas eve don't re-sign the new contract. Manchester City council have 3 months to demonstrate their contingency and recruitment plans to recruit and train 1250 fire fighters and to fulfill their statutory requirement to provide a fire service. When Manchester burned it would be on their watch - and they have an electorate that they expect to return them at the next elections.
