First ever dog

I guess you’ve done some research on this breed, but here’s a bit more to help.

We’ve had Weimaraner’s, which I understand are similar in many respects, for over 20 years and currently have one who is two years old.

He’s very loyal and friendly, but demands lots of attention and exercise. One of us is home with him nearly all the time as they suffer with separation anxiety and can be destructive. He also costs about £60 a month to insure plus feeding and sundries. It is best to buy from a registered breeder who will take them back if you can’t cope with them.

Good luck.

Sighthounds are like cats in the house, a lot of people mis-understand that, they are happy to curl up and get their head down for 8 hrs no problem. They are reluctant to throw their tongue...if its your first dog get yourself a retired greyhound and give it a few yrs break..it will be loyal to your kindness....a whippet the same

Probably posted before but retiring in 6 months.
Never had a dog and know the restrictions. Don’t really want a topical/ fancy dog but considering a Hungarian vialsa ,anyone owned or previously had one ?

My Stepson and his family had one. They are experienced dog owners and well equipped regards space, time and engery to give him. But he was a real handful, very needy with non stop energy.

Gorgeous dogs but I'm not sure I'd recommend one for someone with no experience.

I have a “labernese”, essentially a mongrel - chocolate lab mum with a Bernese mountain dog dad. Basically looks like a 55kg black lab, but what a chap - allegedly bred for autistic children, he is just great about people in general. My wife an I foster, so thought that may be useful, and it certainly is! Seems to be tuned into moods, anyone sad or sick gets undivided attention. Have since “rescued” a wire haired pointer and they seem to enjoy barking a lot at random stuff together, which is a tad annoying

Edit: not sure why the fat twat is currently sitting on my lap, maybe I have COVID! (Or more likely biscuits in my dressing gown)

Springer spaniel... end of....
I love my springer Colin. Hes 11 now and noticeably slowing down but in his younger days he was impossible to tire out. So be prepared to WALK!

His facial expressions are like nothing else ive seen in any dog ive had. He looks at me and hes trying so hard to tell me what he wants.

Back to the OP, if you want to do something nice, get a retired greyhound. We had one as a kid and and they dont take much exercise at all and they are very loving gentle dogs

We got our first dog five years ago ….a working cocker. It was absolutely bonkers and causing any number of arguments in the house, reluctantly after 12 weeks we gave him back to the breeder

Fast forward to June this year and after much thought we got a golden retriever pup and it’s the best thing we’ve done in a long time. He is a beautiful dog with a gorgeous chilled temperament, eager to please and train. My advice would be to get a retriever, the breeder I got him from is expecting another litter soon, happy to pass on her details
