Many thanks for taking the time to respond. Hopefully nothing to worry about and a little way off still.I don’t think so, it’s just that Avanti tend to not have many advance tickets for weekends until nearer the time, presumably so they can ensure they’re not too cheap!
Look at going through Leeds. Usually cheaper and nicer trains.
Cheers.Think there could be engineering work going on I tried to book two train tickets for a similar date to London to show my youngest the sites during the six weeks holidays but wasn’t able to due engineering works going on.
It's also the bank holiday weekend. Many thanks mexico1970

Definitely engineering works that weekend.Hi all
Just got tickets for the family for City v Palace on Saturday, 27 August.
Trying to book train tickets back to London on the Sunday but all the websites are saying their are no fares/tickets available. Any idea what's going on?
Train strike??
I'm confused... :-(
Oh heck!Definitely engineering works that weekend.

RE Avanti trains & the puzzling lack of discounted tickets, particularly compared to the east coast line; worth pointing out London Northwestern have put their early bird £9.50 fares to Crewe from Euston back on. Obviously means a split slightly longer journey & the extra leg to Piccadilly (from £3.50) but looking at national rail for 13th August Avanti prices are between £32 & £68 departure 8-10am...I don’t think so, it’s just that Avanti tend to not have many advance tickets for weekends until nearer the time, presumably so they can ensure they’re not too cheap!

Yes I've used it several times. If you're going from Euston you want the 46mins past the hour service which follows the west coast mainline route to Crewe. Stops pretty much everywhere after Milton Keynes but at just over 2 hours it's still not bad. There is another service that goes via Cov, Brum, Wolves & eventually on to Crewe taking over 3hrs but avoid that by going on the :46 mins past.Nice one. Thanks for communicating as wasn't aware of this alternative route.
Anyone actually travelled on this London Northwestern to Manchester route via Crewe?
Missus travelled on one of their trains pre-COVID from London Euston to Birmingham New Street & had a nightmare.
