I had a similar one five years back against Borussia Monchengladbach. I was working in Glasgow until 2:00 so I couldn’t catch the early train down. To make matters worse I couldn’t get in to the usual hotels soo had to book on somewhere near Belle Vue. I had to get a taxi to the hotel to drop off my bag and get another one back to the stadium in the pouring rain.Bloody hell... was that 8 years ago?
5 hour drive to Manchester, parked up on Ashton New Road, got to the ground and nearly got run over by a programme stall.
Got some chips at Tony's and drove 5 hours home.
Happy times.
I met my son, who had travelled from London, at the ground before the kickoff time. We hadn’t had time to eat before so we bought food at one of the cafes. Just as the food arrived the announcement came through that the match was off because of the rain.
Had we not already got the food, we could have gone into town and had a decent meal in a restaurant. We went back to the City Centre and watched another CL match in the pub.
By then it emerged that the match was to be replayed the following day. Our hotel was fully booked for the Wednesday night so I had to look for somewhere else. I found a room in a converted warehouse near the docks in Salford. We then both had to rearrange our travel back on Thursday.
