Fleas

Take your dog to the vet you tight ****. Shop bought flea treatments won't work if you've neglected things for this long.
Any dog should be having regular flea and worming treatments prescribed by a vet and if they're not - I'd suggest getting a goldfish.
Programme Plus for fleas and Drontal for worming, never had a single flea despite years of having dogs.

Why pay the vet a consultation fee. Our vet uses Drontal and Frontline. Both available at pets at home. Frontline expensive though at £40.

Start from scratch and get the house sprayed by a proper company, get the dog treated then make sure you treat the dog every month on the dot all year round

I had a flea problem a couple of years ago, and like you they wouldn't go away.
In the end I spent about £40 on half dozen flea bombs, empty the house of people & animals, set bombs off get out & stay out for 4 hours, then gave the cats some flea tablets, problem solved.

No matter how many times you treat your pets, if they're in the furniture they'll keep coming back.

Good advice above.
You can also buy flea lamps. It's a low voltage lamp that attracts fleas due to the heat. Once the flea jumps it lands on a sticky pad that surrounds the lamps base. Hide the lamps in darkened areas. It works!

I buy drontal online but I have had to buy programme plus oral flea treatments off the vet as it is prescription only - it costs the price of a few pints so no biggie. Frontline isn't suitable for all breeds of dogs due to differences in depth of coat and whether or not the liquid can penetrate the fur down to the skin, some dog's coats repel moisture so the product sits on the surface rather than reaching the dog's skin. Everyone's dog should have at least an one annual consultation with a qualified vet for a health check, weight, etcetera, and a visit if something is wrong. To not take a dog to a vet when it's suffering to duck out of paying a small consultation fee is out of order imo. I'd imagine regular worming treatments are being overlooked by the OP as well because every vet will insist on these basic treatments to keep your pal healthy. All of my dogs have been insured so I never worry about cost but insurance is another thing some dog owners fail to pay for.

Give the house a seriously good vaccing, down between the cushions on the sofa/arm chairs etc etc, dark corners and places that aren't usually vacced. They nest in areas where dog hairs and fluff gather undisturbed. Fortunately, with the lowering of general standards it no longer has the stigma that it used to I'm afraid, you dirty bastard.
