Flooding in Spain - latest at least 205 killed

Went from every 100 years plus to 2 in 4 years, nothing to worry about.
Correct Scottyboi, but before people are quick to put forward the global warming narrative (and perhaps it has an effect), maybe they should look at the river maintenance upstream and downstream and how that has been cut back over decades.

There are many reasons why years ago the river could handle it and today it can't, but global warming is not top of this particular list.

Global warming or councils not maintaining proper flood defences,? leaves people with an enormous clean up bill, measures to avoid flooding dredging of rivers used to be commonplace but some cash strapped councils don’t prioritise it anymore.
Heartbreaking for the people affected by the floods

I think the intensity of the rainfall was a big factor. As far as I'm aware Britain had 2-3 weeks of dry weather before Bert rolled in - so it might have been expected that the ground would have been able to absorb a fair bit of water through infiltration, as there would have been some capacity in the soil? Floods often happen when a big downpour follows several days of steady rain, this was different?
