I don't see how this guy fits on Pep's scheme. This guy is a pure number 10 ala Ozil, without much defensive workrate. I don't know if he could work as an 8.
He clearly didn’t like the physical side of the PL, remember him getting dogs abuse for pulling out of challenges that looked 70-30 in his favour. And that seemed to be an issue throughout his career. For a big lad he could be bulliedI honestly believe he came to us to join Bayern.
Hamburg had no intention of selling him to Bayern, so we were used to get him there.
We made money and he gets to play for the club he wanted to.
Oh and he was the German Titus Bramble for me. Looked decent but had a big mistake in him every game.
Cheers hopefully we're are watching himI went to the Schalke v Leverkusen game last Saturday
Kept a specific eye on Wirtz.
He was very impressive. He just ghosts past opponents, showed great creativity, close control and passing range.
Seemed to have it all, including a football brain.
He is going to be a top player.
KDB replacement when needed?I don't see how this guy fits on Pep's scheme. This guy is a pure number 10 ala Ozil, without much defensive workrate. I don't know if he could work as an 8.
I'm afraid it can't really be coached in. Players like Kdb, Bernie and Grealish have always had some aggression in their game, Gundo (like Nasri before him) doesn't and you can clearly see that when he goes in for 50/50 challenges. Wirtz looks like a great player but I don't think he's a perfect fit for the pl...especially as a Kdb replacement.KDB replacement when needed?
Defensive work rate can be coached quite easily IF the player has the right attitude.
I agree. Wirtz just seems like another Havertz too me. Havertz was very good in the Bundesliga, very similar profile to Wirtz and other than that one goal (always against us!) he has done nothing. Wirtz will end up at Bayern. Muller isn't getting any younger and there is only so much longer they will keep playing Chupo-Moting etc.I'm afraid it can't really be coached in. Sorry disagree...it can be coached in...its whether yhe player accepts the responsibility for it...kindly was coached to be better defensively..he wasn't great but he improved in that aspect under pep. Grealish has got better over the last 6 months at it. ....its purely down to willingness and listening....yaya being the opposite of that for exampleI'm afraid it can't really be coached in. But they do a lot more tracking back and field covering. Wirtz is playing basically as a false 9 in Leverkusen with almost non-existent defensive responsibilities.Kdb and Gundo basically been playing as 10s recently with a fullback filling their void in midfield.
