All transfers are gambles. What does matter though is the state of a teams squad before spending big money on one player. Liverpool are in a solid position at the minute and they can perhaps afford to risk paying over £100m for one player.

Like most blues I was gutted Wirtz chose Liverpool and City soon moved on from the frustration of Leverkusen playing hard ball.

We've signed 3 top class players for less than what Leverkusen are demanding for Wirtz.

Absolutely delighted with how Txiki and Hugo collaborated in getting 3 deals done so smoothly and fast.

The most negotiating I've ever done is on eBay, but I've never understood why clubs, including ours, get a nosebleed at the last 5%. I understand the desire not to be seen to have the piss taken out of you, but you're gonna lose them over a tiny fraction of the overall deal. *Shrugs*
