It's worth highlighting too that the famous 'Going to the Match' was described as Lowry's impression of the day when Burnden Park held its record crowd which was in 1933 for Bolton v City. Lowry was a dedicated Blue of course (loads of stuff about him refusing to go to OT; not forgiving United for signing Meredith etc.). The famous version of Going to the Match was dated 1953 but he'd been doing pencil versions of it earlier.Manchester City vs. Sheffield United is one of Lowry’s earliest football paintings
Should of had this..

Yes. I saw something a few years back where some Utd supporting journalist claimed he was a Red and not long after I attended a meeting at City where one of the staff was under the impression the journalist was right. An example of how influential some in the media can be when they spread misinformation. You probably already know Gary but Lowry was asked on a Granada, I think, documentary what he thought about when he painted. His reply was along the lines of ‘if City were going to win on Saturday’!
Well worth a visit despite its short running time.Going to the Match is my favourite painting, saw it at Manchester Art Gallery a few years back
The Lowry Gallery is currently staging this excellent immersive event until Xmas, went a couple of weeks back. Free but you have to book a slot

I have seen him a time or two propping up the bar in Sam's Chop House. By all accounts he hasn't moved in fifteen years! It's worth highlighting too that the famous 'Going to the Match' was described as Lowry's impression of the day when Burnden Park held its record crowd which was in 1933 for Bolton v City. This all reminds me of when I worked for the Halifax Building Society in Hyde in 1985. The region’s Business Development Officer announced he had a NW region competition for those opening LittleXtra accounts (kids accounts) to win a day at OT where they would meet Bryan Robson and have their photos taken with the FA Cup. He wanted each counter staff member in every branch in his patch to wear Utd shirts and promote the competition. Most of us refused and I pointed out the competition wouldn’t be popular.I saw posters for it on Oxford Rd earlier this week. I took a photo and was going to upload it but I had the same reaction as the OP when I looked at their website and didn't bother.
You don't run an event on Manchester and football and focus on Man Utd.
There”s something for everyone to enjoy…….Just in case anyone is under any illusion who this is squarely aimed at, from the official MIF launch email (apologies in advance for the picture)

She only happens to be the WSL all-time leading scorer who has also just scored her 100th goal for the Dutch Women's national team at the (currently underway) Euro's. She also plays for City Women's team when she's not injured.I sent them an email asking why so many rag players. They did reply and I'll be honest I've never heard of the City player
