I always felt that the long term grudge that some City fans hold against Spurs regarding the 1981 Cup Final went back a long way.
But this Coventry vs Sunderland grudge goes back even further in time to 1977, which is almost half a century ago. Christ, most of those who hold the grudge weren't even born when it happened.

Coventry should have been relegated from Division One in season 1976-77 ,but due to some very dodgy decisions and questionable tactics by them,it was Sunderland who were actually relegated on the last day of the season,and Mackem fans are still whinging on about it almost 50 years later.
And Jimmy Hill was found guilty of cheating by starting the Coventry City vs Bristol City game 10 minutes late, due to alleged over crowding.

Cov were at home to Bristol City
Sunderland away at Everton
Both games played on a Thursday night.

Cov, Bristol and Sunderland all on the same points with Sunderland occupying the last relegation spot via a worse goal average (as it was back then)

Crowds outside cov can't get in before kick off and Hill (allegedly) gets the game delayed by 15 mins.
Cov 2 up but Bristol hit back to 2-2.
Sunderland game ends and have lost. If the score at Highfield Road stays the same then cov and Bristol are safe.

Jimmy Hill orders the Sunderland score to be flashed up on the scoreboard...... the last 10 mins becomes a farce as both teams refuse to attack amd just kicking the ball to another team mate across the field with the other team making no attempt to get the ball off them.....

Watched this last night.

These young lads are funny nowadays. Acting all hard with their hoods up ! Waiting for the police to protect them! Those dippers were only about 16.

The Sunderland fans having a fight with a fence! Ha ha.

Not sure why the footage of the Ipswich game. Hardly a difficult one to police that!

That is what was said in the programme. There was a whole bunch of them with slightly different uniforms. And one plod said…All those with the blue on their backs just do football and nothing else.

This was a really good programme. The coppers featured all largely seemed alright, loved that they had a section on dealing with ticketless scouse rats and brought up the pot of coins that hit the young girl. Another was slagging United off in another clip. Enjoyable watch, they seem to have much better strategies for policing games nowadays.

They said they will be going over to the Euros in the Summer, imagine they pivot to doing other big crowd events like festivals aswell.
