In 1964 the semi finalists for the FA cup were West Ham, Man United, Preston and Swansea

United had won it the year before and as it happened the two strongest were drawn together, them and West Ham featuring Hurst Peters and Moore - West Ham progressing

That led to Howard Kendall for Preston being the youngest to play in the Cup Final, but if United had progressed to the final, then George Best would have shared the record, as he and Kendall had the same birthdate. Best hadn't played in the 63 final and broke through into the first team that season

Not football related, but do you know that the guy who played Les Battersby in Coronation Street found one of the Rippers bodies?
The police treated him as a suspect and the media were all over it. It resulted in him being depressed, which in itself ended his 1st marriage, and into alcoholism.

I’ve not looked for anymore replies but I think it ended his career.
If I remember rightly he was a holding midfielder they nicknamed ‘crunch’.

He said the injury made him go into business as he needed something after the injury ended his career.

I saw it on an interview with him before the FA cup final against us.

Not football related.
His real surname isn’t nail.

He got given it from when he was working on a building site and he managed to impale his tow (or foot) on a nail. After that they called him Jimmy the Nail and he used it as his surname when he got into acting.

I’m sure he’s got a weird story about how he got into acting too.

The guy who founded Napoli. Or as it was then called Napoli football and cricket club (I think that’s what it was called) was William Poths, he worked for Cunard.

I can’t find anywhere that says Poths was from Stockport, so I could be conflating the 2 men.
But I’m sure I’ve seen it somewhere and a bloke from Naples I used to work with told me the same thing.

i'm still confused by the title thread,
and although i know this as a fact,
i don't think it is a football fact so i'm okay posting it...

my mother's third (and now deceased) husband was the maitre d of a posh restaurant that was booked up many weeks in advance.
the sort of place that doesn't close until the last customer leaves, no matter the hour.

the prices were off the scale
and the tips given were show-off silliness.

one evening baconface turned up with 3 lickspittles.
he was mostly all right but towards the end tried to be a smart arse and belittle my mother's husband over a minor matter.

when the bill arrived baconface left a huge tip.
my mother's husband went over to his table,
returned the whole tip to the nearest pound,
and said no thank you.

seemingly baconface went much redder than normal.

Football club, Bradford City, were the first ever Rugby League Champions in 1896, when they were known as Mannigham. They left rugby league to become a football club in 1903, and they won the FA Cup in football in 1911.

Football club, Bradford Park Avenue, won the Rugby League Challenge Cup in 1906. The very next year they left rugby league to become a football club.
