Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

Interesting. And from an Arsenal fan too

Yep he is spot on to regarding Chelsea owner.

Many will disagree with me, but I have no real issue with Sheikh Mansour pumping his billions into Manchester City.

It is his money, he has legally earn it. Why should be restricted as to how he spends it?

The important thing for me is that once he has given the money to Manchester City – whether it be through gifts or sponsorship – that money then becomes Manchester City’s.

Manchester City are very different to Chelsea. They have zero debt. Sheikh Mansour has financed them and does not seemingly want the money back .He has not loaned them, the club does not sit with £2.7bn debt owed to the owner. Chelsea, meanwhile, currently owe Roman Abramovich £1bn.

Maybe not, but an Irish podcast had a field day over the amount of countries Britain invaded in colonial times, and that was because they were outraged over the James McClean poppy furore.

How is this relevant to the discussion here?

For years many City fans (me included) looked up at the Elite clubs lofty position & we all wanted to be like them in the sense of challenging for major honours.
However we wanted to maintain our identity & not become arrogant & elitist in our attitude as a club by creating an unfair set up & excluding the rest of the football clubs who were not part of the elite.
This is one of the reasons we dislike FFP & I for one am glad the club challenged it because it was not about fairness or helping clubs financially from being mismanaged- it was about protecting the Status quo & protecting UEFAs cash cow that is the Champions league; basically they wanted to make sure the Elite clubs got far in the competition because there is more world wide interest in Bayern, Utd, Barca etc than clubs like City & PSG etc so they could keep getting the big sponsorship deals.
This idea of a closed shop European competition where teams cannot get relegated when participating in it etc would help City financially & help keep us at the top table challenging for major honours over the coming years.
However I'm against it & it is hypocritical for City to be part of it & become part of the Elitist group that we dislike. It is simply not fair on Football as a whole & the many clubs that will not be part of it will fall further away from the top teams- the gap will get bigger & bigger & it will make a nonsense out of the most competitive league in world football- the premier league. We will be just as bad as some of the clubs we dislike.

BlueAnorak. I am confused. Are you saying that the Der Spiegel info says that the monies came from the Emir and not Sheikh Mansour?

I was taking the British press reports of SHeikh Mansour funding the Etihad deal at face value. Are you saying that the evidence they have suggests it was the Emir and not Sheikh Mansour who paid the Sponsor monies?
To Etihad and Etisalat - probably.
It rather depends on whether UAE protocols are being applied in MCFC corporate space.
"His Highness" without a Sheikh name means the Emir. Referring to anyone else of the Royal family appends the shiekh name to "His Highness"
I.e. in our owners case
"His Highness Sheikh Mansour" or "H.H. Sheikh Mansour".
As Sheikh Mansour doesn't own any of Etihad or Etisalat he couldn't pay his own money via these companies.
It makes little difference to the idea that we have been state aided - we have. But that isnt in the FFP rule book. That is specifically backed up by international IAS-24 accoubting standards.
Incidently the relationship between German insurance company Alliance and Bayern Munich is just as dodgy as some baord members are on both boards. It doesn't make them related parties to the IAS-24 rule book though.

what have the manchester city owners really done wrong (its there fucking money) not loaned and used on future ticket sales or fake club shares, and manchester city are debt free and annual turn over of £500milion and if they sold up tomorrow would make more than double what they have put into the club so WHY is it bad for football, any other sport would be welcoming somebody like sheikh mansour as the 2nd coming, even the government would be falling over themselves with that amount of investment into the country and not just the football side of it manchester as a whole is now booming

why on earth did uefa come up with something like FFP if it was not done for stopping manchester city challenging in europe ??? if is was ok for 5 of the so called big clubs to run up huge debt in getting to where they are now SO WHY IS IT NOT OK MANCHESTER CITY TO INVEST WITH HIS OWN WEALTH not bank loaned money just look at united £450million and growing and they can play without any punishment ????

BOOING right now
