Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

I actually think by making it 4 parts they've helped City out. After days 1&2 everyone was bracing for what was to come but it's been a complete non-event.

Already feels like people are moving on from it tbph.

"..When City decides it wants a player no matter how high the price, even an automobile manufacturer with sales of 200 billion euros eventually buckles. Ultimately, Wolfsburg received a transfer fee of 75 million...."

First time seeing 75m quoted for Debruyne. Are they pulling these figures from thin air ? I think by the fourth part Spiegel has lost all credibility if ever they had one.

This is quite incredible! Are they asking the world here to feel sorry for Volkswagen Audi Group???This the same Volkswagen smeared by the emissions scandal (dare I say this is what's known as cheating?) who's CEO was arrested and remains in custody and, here's a real cruncher, the Audi CEO who also had to resign and has been charged in the USA, well lo and behold he is on the advisory board of yep Bayern Munich!!!

Confused about who paid Mancini. Did we send money to ADUG to pay the other team to pay Mancini?
It certainly sounds like it. So, in effect, we were paying Mancini from City but through two separate companies. Did none of these highly-paid journalists think that this might be to do with Mancini's tax affairs or something? For instance image rights that could be paid offshore rather than in the UK.

This is what gets me about all this. No one is asking pertinent questions (most probably because they have no understanding of FFP) about why City were scrambling around for a few million here and there when our aggregate losses were over £150m for that first FFP assessment period against a maximum allowable loss of less than £40m. We were nearly £80m short of meeting FFP even when our allowable expenses were added back. So what fucking difference did a few million here & there make when we failed FFP anyway? Are UEFA going to be the slightest bit bothered be, not because we passed FFP, but because we failed it by a bit more than we otherwise might have done?

Strikes me these Spiegel people need to take a long hard look in the mirror
If you were German based reporters and the material fell in your lap you'd publish it.

The question now is who was behind it. And more interestingly what City are going to do about it.

If I were Sheikh Mansour I'd be feeling very aggrieved. What he has done for MCFC is exceptional. The story deserves to be told properly. It does not work being quiet and reasonable and trusting that the world will acknowledge your accomplishments. We should at least consider dropping a few titbits of our own into the hands of the media and let them do their worst.

So now all 4 instalments are out, is there expected to be some form of club statement on the matter, or do you reckon they'll just work in the background on it?

This is a very interesting question. I suppose the ball is more in UEFA's court than City's, in the sense that if UEFA think there is substances to the allegations, then they might feel obliged to reopen investigations. But I doubt that they will want to go back 5 years and dig up a case which was settled to the satisfaction of both sides, at the risk of legal action.
Having said that, you would expect a large organisation that has been smeared to issue some kind of response. Although with a story that appears to be fading, that carries the risk of reigniting interest.
A bit of a dilemma. One thing for sure is that we can rely on City to have the smartest guys in the room on the case.

Now Bayern's smear campaign is over, I'd just like to remind fellow blues to give Matthew "rat boy" Syed and James "the rag" Ducker the reception they deserve if you ever get the chance to welcome them to the Etihad.
