It's all nonsense isn't it? Liverpool always paid top dollar when they were dominating, United were out spending everyone for years after that, then Chelsea did, now it's City. It was originally conceived to tackle debt, but once it was realised that the biggest debtors in world football were Barcelona and the rags, it was immediately refocused onto ‘spending what you earn’, ie. preventing any club (specifically City) with the financial wherewithal to invest heavily and challenge the old guard, from doing so.

Nail on the head Rumenigge and his tax dodging mate Hoeness have their dirty mitts in this ,they have taken every opportunity to criticise our club and have done for years , the fact that Pep left to join the "project" has riled them , they now have an ageing squad that needs massive investment and are shitting themselves that their worst nightmare is about to become true , we are becoming a major player in european and world football , aint payback a woman.

Why be defensive about this and pretend we have not spent as much as people think?

If you read my post, which blueinsa was quoting, I hadn't said we haven't spent as much, I said it was comparable with, and it is, but (and quite importantly) we first had to spend big to even try to get close. We're not close to any record fee's, don't have the most expensive keeper, defender, or forward on our books, and our wages which had an initial big spike (and whilst still large) are comparable with or less than some of the biggest clubs, and we seem to have a structure to ours that others don't. I wasn't comparing with spurs or arsenal either, more psg, barca, and real madrid.

The problems is the media perception to everyone else is "money bags City", yet its no more "money bags" than anyone else at the top.

The aussie scouser is correct in that spending big money helps greatly, but the perception he has about our spending is just that, a media driven perception, usually driven by ex pro's from his club or united, who's fans both considerably resent the fact we've got in on their gravy train, well tough shit we have.
