Football Manager 2011

Well, I did say this season would be a risk. I sacrificed it to give my young players some experience in the hope that if we stayed up we could really push on in the final season of the challenge. It worked, survived (just) as predicted so roll on next season. Poor points intake this season but hopefully my gamble pulls off next season.

Just bought this game again.

I remember why I sold it in the first place! I'm so bad at it but I don't know why!

What formation is generally regarded as the best?

I'm city after 8 games and won 1 drwn 1 and lost 6!

It's no fun when you're shit.

Your formation has to match your squad strengths, no point playing 4-4-2 if you only have 2 crap wingers or 4-2-3-1 if you have no decent DMs. You can even invent your own, if you have a great winger but on the other side a midfielder set it up so the winger is AMR but the other side is ML, you don't have to use a standard formation.

You need to use the tactics creator (on the first day) to set up an attacking, standard and defensive tactic - don't forget to use the Match Preparation screen to let you players learn those tactics (also on the first day). If you want you can have 3 versions of 4-4-2 but use the players instructions to make it attacking, standard or defensive - e.g. set FBs to stay back and cross from deep in defensive, have them bomb forward and cross from bye-line in attacking etc.

Set up specific training routines and save them - export them so you can re-use them if you start as another team. I have about 10, target man, striker, Atk Mid, Mid, DM, CB passer, CB defender, FB, Goalie plus another 8 or so for youth. Pain in the arse to set up the first time but if you export them you can re-use them on any new game - same with tactics.

Oh ok cheers I'll try that and see how I get on. I may start a new one but not being city. Leicester is tempting.

Won the League cup with Cardiff in 1st season, got them promoted with finishing 1st. Signed a load of players on free transfers and loans, then spent £5million on Kyle Walker. 22 Games into the Prem season of 2011/2012 and i'm 3rd with a game in hand and 4 points behind top, as i qualified for the Europa League with the League cup, finished the group stages top and had 3 6-0 wins in it, and now into the quarters.
Hopefully i can go the whole way!

Had a very poor start to the season with Burnley. However, we've managed to turn it around a bit with a new formation combined with a couple of loan signings. Currently in 9th spot after 25 games but the 5 teams above us only have 1 more point so league positions are changing after each game. Also just 5 points adrift of 2nd place so that is still achievable. Somehow managed to get to the semi-finals of the League Cup against West Ham. Knocked out Sunderland, Wigan and Fulham along the way, so quietly confident that we can cause another upset in the semi. Just need to make a couple of top signings in January now.

Sorry to go off topic with the hole burnley thing but does any one know where i can get the latest update regarding relegation and promotions and player transfers

Had a fairly good start to the season with Burnley.

Transfer Budget: £450K

Players In:

Bressan (BATE) - £250K (Over 48 Months)
Pavel Niakhaichyk (BATE) - £1M (Over 48 Months)
Chando (Murcia) - £110k

Players Out:

Brian Easton (To Ipswich) - £500k

First Ten games done, some great results some shocking results;-

Im enjoying this game so far, hope to keep you posted!
