Football Trivia Question of the Day (continued)

Which City star was the first English player to get a red card?
(No googling allowed)
Judging by the question, the player in question may have been playing overseas when he received it?
Or he wasn't the first player to be given a red card in England, just the first English player.....
So I go for Dennis Tueart v Hartlepool in the cup (maybe they introduced it in cup games as a trial?? Very random guess.....

Think he meant English player, dint George best get a red the day they were enforced?

In a similar vein. In 1981, in a game from the top division England, who were the two players shown the last red cards for 6 and a half years and, who got the next red card, 4 minutes into the 1987-88 season?

Did Trevor Francis not get a red card against Everton in 82? Ditto Nicky Reid at Carlisle in 83?
Andy May against Oldham at Maine Road 85?

I presume by the tone of the question that the system must have changed for a few seasons, but I definitely remember Nicky Reid and a Boro player both getting a red card at Maine Road. It kicked-off, and my mate got lobbed out.
Hodgson? Jankovic? Craig Johnstone?

If there's a City connection, then our first game in 87-88 was against Plymouth. However, I don't recall a red card.

The Reid and May red cards were in the second tier but Francis definitely got sent off for shoving his head into Kevin Ratcliff'e's face against Everton in 82. In 87/88 we were back in the second tier again so I don't think this question is directly City-related.

Nicky Reid and Steve Hodgson were sent off for fighting in January 1981. The game was televised and Middlesboro had to go to Trafford and borrow rag shirts, as there's had sponsorship on and that wasn't allowed!!
Red and yellow cards were then suspended by the football league as they thought they had led to over-posturing by referees. EUFA made them bring them back in 1987. All dismissals between those dates saw the referee 'point' the player off.
The first player shown a red card, following their reintroduction, is not City related. Just thought I'd add it in!

Interesting, I remember Boro having to play in rag shirts in that game but I can't say that the subsequent suspension of the red cards stayed in my memory for long, I mustn't have seen it as being especially important.

So Reid and Hodgson were correct for the first part of the question?
Similarly, I remember the red cards against Boro, but not the suspension of their use (presumably mid-season?)

As for 87-88,I remember City beating Plymouth on the opening day in the second division, but nothing about the First Division. In fact, the only thing I recall is Liverpool having a storming start to the season.
I'm not one for googling and pretending to know the answer, so unless it's an obvious thug, or memorable incident, I'm going to need clues.
