For those who booed when Elano was replaced

This is MEN from Hughes.

“Elano is sat in the dressing room with ice packs all over him,” reported the manager after the 4-2 win. “He was taken off because he was struggling with injury and it was in no way a reflection of his performance. He has played well in the last two games and we know he is a gifted performer.”

To be fair Hughes did make a point of standing on the touch line and clapping Elano as he came off. I knew at that point it had something to do with an Injury. Also, Elano had received some treatment on the sidelines about 10 -15 minutes before he was brought off...

And this from the Times

With his team leading 3-2 and 15 minutes remaining, Hughes was heckled by large swaths of the City of Manchester Stadium for bringing off Elano, despite the Brazilian being visibly shattered and the manager wanting to bolster the midfield by introducing the more defensive-minded Gelson Fernandes.

It was a puzzling reaction in the extreme, with the City fans seemingly forgetful that Elano, like the rest of his team-mates, had expended enormous amounts of energy during the 2-1 victory at home to Hamburg in the Uefa Cup only three days earlier and that the midfield player had spent the ten minutes before being substituted yesterday motioning to the dugout to be taken off.

All this should have been blindingly obvious to anyone who has watched the last three games but instead the booers have made us all look like ignorant retards. Thanks for that.

The booing was embarrassing and pathetic.

That's 2 games on the trot now that large sections of our support have displayed total tactical ignorance.

Do you know, I think the fans' reaction is towards Hughes, rather than the decision. Far enough the lad was injured, but Hughes has refused to recognise the obvious talent Elano has and instead of playing him through a bad spell(which he has done with Richards, Evans, Vassell, to name a few ffs!), he's sidelined him, which has contributed to our league position.

This is why Hughes get the "You don't know what you're doing!" chant now! Many have come back to the championing of Elano over the battle of wills with him and Hughes and is virtually untouchable to be sold, by next season.

Bigga

This doesn't excuse the booing. Furthermore, how can it be helpful to make such an issue of the alleged MH-Elano battle of wills? In the end, they are both employees of the club who should just get on with it, as we should get on with supporting them. Everything else is simply irrelevant gossip.

And how many has Hughes showed his?

Plenty.

But the last two games he hasn't done much wrong as manager yet has been lambasted for his subs.

You certainly can't argue with the shoring up of our midfield with 15 minutes to go yesterday as we held on and got another goal.

I wasn't booing when Elano came off (it's all very tame in the West Stand!) but I can kind of understand it.

Yes, Elano was knackered but at the end of the day Hughes is sending out the impression that we're clinging on for a 3-2 win by taking off a creative influence and replacing him with Gelson. I actually don't hate Gelson Fernandes (which probably puts me in the minority) but I'd rather have seen a positive sub like Petrov seeing as Elano had switched to the left by the time he came off.

I think the booing and chanting was a culmination of the frustration which I'm sure everyone who was actually at the game felt. We were playing the worst team in the league by a country mile, yet we could easily have come away with only a point.

I do actually feel that the booing was for bringing another defensive midfielder on when when we already had two, the game was'nt in the bag and we still needed to go on and win it
Hughes was eventually proved right but I dont think he helps himself

I understand what you're saying, but the obvious lack of professionalism in putting out the best team, over pride, has finally got on the fans wicks! I do understand that irrelevant and stupid to boo NOW, but I don't think the fans can forgive past discrepancies where the Hughes/ Elano saga, is involved.

It's got a feel of 'too little too late' where Hughes is concerned.

Here's what the Telegraph said:
But the chorus of boos that greeted the substitution, and a repeat of last Sunday's chant of 'You don't know you're doing', summed up the task that Hughes also faces off the pitch at Eastlands. Manchester United supporters mockingly refer to City's stadium as the 'Boo Camp' and here was the reason why.
We should have given Elano thunderous applause for the part he's played and, even if he's no Steven Gerrard, should at least have given Gelson Fernandes some encouragement. We also need to stop making fools of ourselves and support our team.

People on here saying the Geordies aren't the great supporters they're cracked up to be.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

The booing began when the crowd saw the numbers go up . Elano was on the far side of the pitch remonstrating with the ref about the positioning of the ball for a Baggies free kick.
When he realised he was being replaced, after the ref pointed it out to him, as he started to jog across the pitch he got a rousing reception from the fans

So he doesn't help himself by making correct decisions? Interesting.

Maybe he should've replaced Elano with Petrov and lost the game 4-3. Would that have helped him prove the fuckwits that he is also one of them?
