Forest v City 1989/90 (Gary Crosby goal)

I'm sure the law at the time said something about the goalkeeper being in control of the ball.
Thinking back to a NI vs England game and Best taking the ball off Ray Clemence (IIRCC) as the ball was in the air when Clemence was kicking it out
Now if the ref decided to disallow the Best goal as it was deemed the keeper still had control of the ball. then how can a keeper who is in total control of the ball in the palm of his hand be deemed not to be in control?

It was actually Banksy !!

Trust me you are not the only one with regards the memory.

I was stuck in the platt lane before moving into Kippax AA lower when the new stand was built, so do remember that year quite well.

We had Walsh, Rosler, Beagrie, Summerbee, flitcroft year so the emphasis was more on football.

Go back two seasons and it was much more direct with Cotons left foot to Quinns head, with the flick on to David White. They were indeed, from an entertainment perspective, barren times.
Its come back me. My dad got a bit old for standing and got three seats first in the North Stand then in the main stand and sometimes l used them. It all comes back again gradually with Alan Kernaghan featuring more than l would wish.

Ireland under Jack Charlton used to play pretty much the same tactics as city. Packie Bonner launching his goal kicks to the head of Niall Quinn. It used to be known as the irish one/two
I thought the Irish one - two was Charlton counting the number of his players born in lreland. There were some pretty tenuous lrish links in those days.;)

That 5-2 game is one of my favourite games ever. Unbelievable attacking quality on both sides. Could easily have ended 10-6 or something bonkers!

Completely agree. It was also the era when we started to see the first wave of world class players from abroad. Watching the likes of Klinsmann was exciting enough, without the added bonus of such a fantastic game.

Ilie Dumitrescu by the way was the stand out player for Spurs, fantastically skilful player.

He scored a worldly against Leicester in the cup. 35 yarder preceded by a dribble around two players, incredible goal, particularly when you consider his position and skillset.

Well worth a watch on youtube

Who remembers the City fans doing the conga at Forest ? I think we must've lost that day.

I remember it at Newcastle New Years day, 93/94, on the open terrace. Lost 2-0 (Andy Cole brace). Did it more to keep warm than anything

Yes l remember that one . It never got the praise it deserved at the time or subsequently.
Somone comments that it was ridiculous that everyone stood off him. No one ever says it was ridiculous that the entire arsenal side stood off Giggs and Seamon dived underneath a shot on his near post.
No it continues to be the 'best FA cup goal EVAH!!! No one mentions the 30000 crowd in a half full Villa Park either.
My memory is a bit rusty at times but its often better than those paid to report accurately and fairly

Yes It was a fantastic goal. I think at the time I thought it was a clearance.

The year the Kippax was being rebuilt, from memory, was the year Brian Horton had his full season in charge and we played some fantastic attacking football. I remember going in the Platt Lane for the first two home matches and we beat Everton and West Ham 3-0 & 4-0. A few months later we beat Ossie Ardiles Spurs side, boasting Klinsmann, Barmby, Dunitrescu, Petrescu 5-2. Great season of football that one.

Popescu, not Petrescu.

I was a big fan of Dibble as a kid. Definite blue tinted glasses looking back at his performances now on you tube. Some of the goals he let in made Hans Segars say “Fuck me he’s giving the game away”

Dibble was considered a bit of a joke figure when he was back up to Coton, in my memory.

When City were getting beat at home by Oxford in a night game in the old Division One (Championship) a bloke ran on in the first half from the Kippax to give them some shit. He headed for Dibble (I think he had thrown one in), got closer, saw the size of him, bottled it, turned around and gave Nigel Clough some instead.

Also, I'm sure there was a story in the evening news about the Prestwish and Whitefield suppoters club in the late nineties having a charity game in Heaton Park. Nick Leeson was playing and the story was about him being there. Whoever was organising was quoted as saying "Andy Dibble also turned up to show support but we had to say to him, "No thanks, Andy, we are already carrying one passenger with Nick"".
