Forgetting Joe Mercer and Roberto Mancini...........

Who was our best manager over the past sixty years?

By best I mean who did the best with the players he had to work with at the time, for example, Roberto Mancini did very well obviously, but he did have a squad of multi millionaire superstars at his disposal which helps....

Whereas managers such as Tony Book, Billy M'cNeill, Brian Horton etc, probably had a tougher job, as many of the players were fairly average....

What? Tony Book had one of the best (arguably 'the' best) squads that we've ever had at the club!

OK then, substitute Tony Book for Ron Saunders, John Benson etc...:)

Under the circumstances, Joe Royle, no question. What he did with the squad he inherited was quite brilliant, more than 3/4 of that squad he got when he took over in division 1 was complete dross, to turn it round and get us promotion albeit in the most dramatic fashion was quite superb.

And took us down....twice !!

Although he never really stood much of a chance for first relegation

KK all the way

In my lifetime i'd have to go for Kevin Keegan. That year in Division One made a 10 year old Freds Patio very happy

I was 30 mate that season, and believe me it was amazing, even Huckerby the third choice striker managed to bag over 20 goals,we almost scored 5 every home game,Benarbia,Berkovic,The Goat,Wanchope,Wiekens at back, what a bloody great season that was

Some great football with Brian Horton. For me though, Keegan changed things for the better. We beat United for the first time and years and he instilled a belief that was missing. Frank Clarke was bobbins but Ball was worse!!

We played some decent stuff under Brian Horton with Beagrie, Walsh and Uwe. For some reason though we couldn't win away from home iof I remember rightly, some scintillating footie at home though.

We won a very important game away at Blackburn, though.

And they went on to win the League that season.

Also that fantastic 5-2 game against Spurs.

And Brian is a very decent bloke, too.
