Former Academy Kids

It's a difficult one when the team is doing so badly. Would be good ideally to give a kid a go to inject something new in the team positively. But is it fair to do that to someone inexperienced which could absolutely destroy a kid making his debut when morale is so low.
I don't think we did the kid at centre half any favours recently by playing him tbh for instance.

It’s just another excuse though. We don’t play them when we’re playing well either.

Usually a young players get a chance when someone’s out injured or out of form.

There our cash cow.
Thats how i see it, the academy us just a way of cashing in on decent prospects.

The ones that aren't particularly great are kept as they can pad the squad out without kicking off.

We've made a lot of money out of the academy, and haven't done too badly on the pitch since seeing the back of those now performing in the Premier League.

I actually don't think the strategy of the academy is to have them make the first team.

We were told that Pep wanted Mcatee to stay. Why ? Has he done something wrong as Pep perfers a knackered players over 30 !.

I can see Mcatee wanting out in January, he is seeing his old mates play well up and down the country.
I’d be pushing for a loan move back to Sheff Utd in January if I was him. Regular game time and they are pushing for automatic promotion. No brainer

unfortunately imagine if we had played them and dropped down the league a few years ago people here would be moaning about us not buyingg players and playing too many kids

however, palmer, harwood-bellis and lavia should have all been anticipated replacements for aging positions (kev/berny, stones/akanji) and players not good enough to be back up (phillips) Delap should never have been sold once Alvarez was fishing for a move.

Bobb is unfortunate and lewis has been flogged to death and overloaded with positions that he doesn't k ow where to play at times.

I think that one of the biggest problems in transitioning kids from the academy to the first team have been the loan deals that we've been finding for players. We're sending them to clubs that don't play the same way as we do or are just not good enough. Can't remember the last player we sent out who came back anywhere near ready to challenge for a starting spot. With Pep's comments at the start of the season I was hopeful that McAtee would've been the one to break this trend but he's played 1 minute of Premier League football since.

Only really seen glimpses but I like the look of Oboavwodou. Mcaidoo and Mukasa look very talented but probably too soon for them. Looks like McAtee isn't going to get a crack nor Wilson-Esbrand so O'Reilly and Wright may get an opportunity to take their chance. Other than local kids, I wonder if the young players we attract from elsewhere are not expecting their career to be with us and sign more for the schooling and reputation with the long-term view of making their name elsewhere
