Formula 1 2022

They changed the rules so that not completing the entire race distance means you get maximum points, yet they still keep the 75% points accrued rule for the other races? Why was Suzuka different?

This is nothing to do with Max, before you start, worthy champion this year, this is a critique of the FIA and their seemingly "flexible" rules.
"f a race is suspended in accordance with Article 57, and cannot be resumed" the deductions apply, they got it correct.

It is 6.5.

But the race distance changed as a result of the crash, and wasn't the agreed upon distance at the start of the race. The Suzuka race distance was then reduced, with all drivers expecting to get the fewer total of points.

FIA has just gone "Ahh fuck it". As a Max fan wouldn't you have rather he won it next race, which was a foregone conclusion rather than win it THIS way with the FIA adding all this pointless speculation? It's not a great way of winning it, is it.
Even when the race distance is reduced it’s pull points. It’s simply the rule since Spa. The organisation had it right straight away. As it was shown on the light boards.

And I don’t really care how Verstappen won it. He would’ve won it anyways as he was by far the best driver this season. Even today a class ahead of anyone else. Maybe loads on here should recognise this instead of debating decisions.

Yeah, i've got the regulations up, and still cannot see how that applies to Suzuka where the race was red flagged and the race distance reduced = full points. And this is the 2022 document. Suzuka WAS resumed, but at a reduced distance.

"If the leader has completed 50% but less than 75% of the scheduled race distance, points will be awarded in accordance with column 3 of the table below." They did 28 laps of a scheduled 53. That ain't 75%

Not according to FIA's own rules. Why do you think everyone looked confused.

As reductions only apply if the race is not resumed, you can't read one bit out of context, the above is if the race doesn't finish according to the start of the paragraph.

6.5 If a race is suspended in accordance with Article 57, and cannot be resumed, points for
each title will be awarded in accordance with the following criteria:

a) No points will be awarded If the leader has completed less than two (2) laps.
b) In each case detailed in Article 6.5c), 6.5d), 6.5e) and 6.5f), no points will be
awarded unless a minimum of two (2) laps have been completed by the leader
without a Safety Car and/or VSC intervention.
c) If the leader has completed two (2) laps but less than 25% of the scheduled race
distance, points will be awarded in accordance with column 1 of the table below.
d) If the leader has completed 25% but less than 50% of the scheduled race distance,
points will be awarded in accordance with column 2 of the table below.
e) If the leader has completed 50% but less than 75% of the scheduled race distance,
points will be awarded in accordance with column 3 of the table below.
f) If the leader has completed 75% or more of the scheduled race distance, full points
will be awarded in accordance with Article 6.4.

The bullet point you posted was clearly qualified.

I can't see how this is confusing once the new rules had been read.

According to the BBC, the rules as written have been properly applied to make Max champion. But the rules fail to meet their intended aim due to a drafting error:

"the historical precedent (is) that reduced points are awarded in such circumstances. But it seems that this protocol was inadvertently left out of the rules when they were rewritten over last winter following the controversial Belgian Grand Prix, when a result was declared despite no racing taking place."

Silly old FIA!

Which regulation states that? Re-read it; that stipulation isn't in there!

Precisely. Their own rules for awarding points is so baffling each race appears to be on a situational basis as to whether they apply or not. No wonder everyone was confused. "Oh sorry, we forgot to put it in!"

Aye, you did!

The BBC and members of Bluemoon get confused, so the rules are wrong even though they are clearly written.

Critisise the FIA without knowing the rules, but then when they are provided either pretend not to understand them just to save face, or just can't be wrong.

They aren't provided! Re-read the regulations. That stipulation isn't clearly written or defined that a race that is resumed but having a reduced distance receives maximum points.

Under that premise you could, theoretically, start the race, red flag it, postpone restarting for a couple of hours, resume, complete 5 laps, winner get 25 points, because the race was "resumed" and the reduced points total system no longer applies.

Maybe your opinion is correct but the rules are wrong. I get it.
More the rules aren't defined and as a result created an unnecessary talking point that could easily have been avoided had they clarified it within their own rule book.

I'm not a Max hater, i'm not a Max fan. I, like many others, simply have no idea how the FIA awarded maximum points when, after checking their own regulations and rules, saw nothing that clarified or justified it. It's not "my opinion", i'd just like for the FIA to have definable rules to work off of, is all.

The fact that a lot of those closely involve in F1 didn't have clue what was going on and that the FIA had to explain themselves shows just how f*cked up the rules were.

Like him or not, and most on here don't, he's been streets (circuits?) ahead of anyone else this year. By far the most consistent driver.
Indeed.

Mercedes and Ferrari have properly fucked themselves team and cars wise this year.

Driving a car round a track should not be this complicated.

Was thinking the same after last season's final race ! That was a farce and it sounds abit confusing this time round lol.

Glad I dont bother with f1 it sounds more confusing than VAR. I couldn't take two confusing sports !
